Sayegh off ballot in Yonkers’ Independence mayoral primary
(THIRD UPDATE)
Nader Sayegh, a founder of the Independence Party in Westchester, was knocked out of a mayoral party primary in Yonkers today by a state Supreme Court justice who found the candidate “had engaged in fraud.”
Late this afternoon, however, Sayegh said he was considering an appeal of the decision and that he would continue with plans to be a candidate in November with a new ballot line that he is calling the Integrity Committee.
In her ruling, Justice Mary H. Smith wrote that she had found “clear and convincing evidence that (Sayegh) had engaged in fraud in the procurement of signatures for his designating petition.”
The ruling knocks Sayegh out of the mayoral contest and leaves the Independence nomination to Republican Mayor Phil Amicone. Amicone declined to take sides in the continuing battle for control over the party between Sayegh and Giulio Cavallo, who has headed the organization in recent years, saying “That is between them.”

The word from White Plains, if correct, is that the judge also said she believed Sayegh committed perjury.
Being thrown off the line is bad enough. But if that “perjury” information is true, it could now lead to criminal charges against Sayegh. If a judge says
“perjury,” that’s pretty damning.
That “INTEGRITY” bunch needs a new name. Someone here will

Does Yonkers want someone the judge called a fraud, and who allegedly also committed perjury (and who could be indicted), to continue to serve in his capacity in the Yonkers schools? There must be a “morals” clause in his and other contracts down there.
In any event, this is the end of the so-called “Integrity Committee.” What an absurd name for that platoon of pirates.

Perjury is a serious crime to be committed, especially for an attorney. Sayegh has demonstrated once again that he has no business being the Leader of the Independence Party, or any Party for that matter.
The evidence in this trial will now be handed over to the District Attorney’s office I would bet, for a criminal charge of Perjury. In addition to that, Sayegh could be disbarred from practicing Law, not to mention being removed from the Independence Party, by the State Committee as well as a possible Court ruling.
The citizenry of Yonkers has had an opportunity to see both sides. After this Court decision I believe the evidence speaks to the facts.
In closing, let me point out to all of you that Justice Mary Smith did NOT receive the Independence line for her Supreme Court race.
The so called Integrity Party should pack it in but good.

Mr. Ciampoli comes with an impressive Resume and a record of winning most of his Election cases for high profile candidates. He is well versed in the Law and is thorough in his preparations, papers, investigations, and arguments.
He also commands a professional respect by many of the Judges he as appeared before.

What Sayegh did is NOT a moot point. It’s very pertinent, and is today’s big news on the County political front.
Sayegh could be indicted, disbarred, and also thrown out of his principal’s job in the Yonkers schools. All three of those possibilities are very real. Beyond all that, his attempt to take over the Independence Party is as finished as he is. There is nothing “moot” about any of that.
Your point also is a good one. But you and others warned the so-called “Integrity” group that they chose the wrong forum in which to fight their internal battles. But they were too pig-headed to listen.
Cavallo is no boy scout. He has his own problems. But at the end of this big squabble, it’s Sayegh and his own motley allies who are now being thrown to the curb—and maybe worse than that. And so it goes.

Perjury is perjury, and fraud is fraud. The Judge ruled on the evidence in the case. Period. That evidence included witnesses and a handwriting expert.
If convincing expert and witness testimony was presented, and if a key party, who was Sayegh, was determined to have committed perjury, then the Integrity Committee should slink off into the deepest, darkest woods—and stay there.

Pinochio’s comments may be strong, but I don’t believe in banning people for being controversial. Nader Sayegh is of Arabic background, right? So that’s a fact, and it isn’t racist to say it. True, it could have been said in a less incendiary way. But it is a fact.

We have no democracy in this city. It is kinda ironic that the president is trying to bring democracy to Iraq when we don’t even practice it here. It was stated above that Amicones lawyer is a specialist in winning battles like this. But it is easy to win a case when you have investigators going house to house at 10 at night, 12 at night, etc. to harrass and scare witnesses. Every single witness that went to court that day was threatened the weekend before. It is unfortunate that the public only sees half truths. The public only sees part of the story, the part news 12 decides to put on in favor of the mayor. Did anyone else notice that news 12 cut off Nader and only aired a glimpse of what he said; in turn making him look bad. It’s sad that the public can’t even vote for who they want. The signatures that were collected were in fact signed by the voters. So their choice of who is best for our city is of no significance now that a bigger party decides that they don’t want anything to stand in the way of them winning this year.
Matt – May I ask how you know that investigators ‘threatened’ and went ‘house to house at 10 at night, 12 at night, etc. to harrass and scare witnesses’ in this case?
Because I know an old lady who was served at 10 at night, and she had heard from others that they were served even later than that
Alright, after reading blogs and attempting to keep an open mind on the matter, I have concluded the following:
Pinochio is in fact very very ignorant on the matter in which he seems so adamant about debating. He makes ridiculous, racist, false comments which further my belief that he is nothing but a lowlife instigator desperate for a little entertainment which he recieves by badgering and butchering innocent, respected public figures, such as Mr. Sayegh. I’m going go take a wild guess and say that you get your information regarding this mayoral campagin via news channel 12, a program that wouldn’t dare piss off the current mayor of Yonkers, Phil Amacone. It is this kind of naiive mindset which governs the American people as a whole and is the reason why our government has gotten away with not only lying to the public, whom they are suppose to be serving, also starting unjust wars and killing hundreds upon hundreds of civilians. Now, Pinochio you may not care about those civilians, you know, since they are Middle Eastern, but for those who do care, those with half a brain and a heart, they know that they cannot believe what they see on tv because stations will always be crooked. When the day comes where you understand what I’ve just said…only then can we continue to have a remotely sophisticated conversation. Until then, God bless you.

Matt – Back to your post about the investigator on this case. Having a potential witness served with legal process is not the same as threatening, harrassing and/or scaring them (your words). Do you have more specific information?
Songbird, why do you keep asking questions? I said exactly what I was told. I mean when the elderly are served late at night, is that fair? Wouldn’t you be terrified if an investigator showed up at that hour asking questions?

It’s quite sad when I see the true colors of the people of Yonkers. These racist remarks are unbearable. Mr. Sayegh has dedicated almost his whole life to the betterment of the Yonkers school system. I have worked with him, and I have zero complaints. He is honarable, kind, and sincere. It really is disapointing when you compare Nader to a corrupt person like guilio Cavalow. Guilio Cavalow cheats on his wife, and lies about being a doctor. So, you compare Nader to him?

The rulling made about Nader Sayegh was made by a Republican, and just asking: What’s Amicone? A REPUBLICAN. So, a couple of the first comments on this blog are saying that Nader might lose his law license. Well first of all guys, if it had a smidgen of truth, the Judge, Mary Smith, would have filed a report to the District Attorney’s office. Of coarse, she didnt. So, that assures us that the ruling made was false, and based on pretense. Plus, im sure the Judge was put under pressure from her own party to side with her OWN party. Think about it: if she went by the books and sided with Nader, she would be hurting her own party. Personally, I dont blame the girl. I mean you have to defend your own party. Last but not least, the witnesses that testified that day were threatend, and harrassed the night before. All, and when I say all I mean ALL, the witnesses were foreighners and hardly knew how to speak english. That about sums it up!
