DiFiore: “intensely personal choice.”
In a telephone interview a few moments ago, Westchester’s newly-Democratic District Attorney Janet DiFiore said her decision to switch parties was “intensely personal” but steadfastly refused to offer any additional insights into why she bolted from the GOP.
“Given my position as district attorney, the most important position in local government, the underlying reasons for the switch are not important,” said DiFiore, who after filing her paperwork at the Board of Elections this morning left for a family vacation on Long Island.
“And that’s because those things do not affect or impact the way in which I do my job as the district attorney and the way in which I run my office,” DiFiore continued. “And I hope you all realize that by now.”
In a written statement to the media this morning, DiFiore said she switched parties “because the principles of the Democratic Party are closely aligned with my views.”
On the telephone, DiFiore declined to elaborate on that statement.
DiFiore’s decision has already generated a sharp reaction from the leader of the Westchester GOP, Doug Colety.
“Janet DiFiore’s decision to abandon the Republican Party and those who worked so hard for her in her races for County Court, Supreme Court and District Attorney has proven her to be an opportunistic, self-serving politician who is more concerned with her own re-election than the public safety of the residents of Westchester County who elected her as a Republican on three separate occasions,” Colety said in a statement.

I wonder if the Republicans who are now complaining about Party switchers complained to Joe Bruno when he got 3 Democrats to switch over the last few years?
If she were in China, she’d join the Communist Party. When will we learn that 90% of these contemporary politicians (and probably the rest of us) HAVE no moral or philosophical center, but only a driving ambition for self-aggrandizement? She might be heard musing: “I have no permanent friends; I have no permanent enemies; I have only permanent self-interest.”
Ok…So she and Mike Spano have basically scammed me. I vote republican straight across the line…
(I voted for these two)
I feel that any person elected to a position under one party should NOT be able to switch until a new election is held…What she and Mike Spano have done was your basic bate and switch scam…They are pathetic…I feel as a voter I or any one who voted for them ( as republicans) should be able to sue them for fraud…
Frank, grow up, get over it. You still have a choice in the next election. Mike and Janet have switched parties, but, they have not switched who they are and what they stand for. They both represent the people of Westchester County regardless of what party or race they are in.
What DiFiore and Mike Spano stand for is very clear.
They stand for themselves and only themselves. Not for
anything or anyone else.
Principled, they are not. Loyal, they are not.
That is beyond debate.
Janet DiFiore? Who cares about Jane DiFiore and the rest of the crooks that run N.Y. State. If you can cheat and steal you can make it here!
T
I voted for you many times and feel completely shafted!
What kind of message are you sending your supporters? or for voters in general for that matter? When we elect you – we believe that you will hold our beliefs to heart as you carry out the duties of your office – you have completed let us down.
Your reason: “because principles of the Democratic Party are closely aligned with my views.
How could your views have changed so dramatically in such a short time?
GW
IT’S CALLED BEING A MODERATE REPUBLICAN. THESE ARE THE SAME PEOPLE THAT YOU VOTED FOR. WHY SHOULD JANET OR MIKE GET SCREWED AND LOSE TO SOMEONE THAT CAN’T DO AS GOOD A JOB SIMPLY BECAUSE THERE ARE SEEN AS THE PARTY OF BUSH. LOOK WHAT WE GOT NOW IN DO “NOTHING COUSINS BECAUSE OF THAT.
Oh, come on, Lou. You are making excuses for her
and for little Mikey. Be consistent and don’t try to
defend what can’t be defended.
I’m still vomiting.
“Given my position as district attorney, the most important position in local government…”
Sounds like the Pirro syndrome to me.
Janet is another turncoat. She is only interested in getting re-elected and she knows the only way to do that is to become a Democrat. If it doesn’t matter what party she has aligned herself with, then why switch parties. I guess you can call this self-preservation and being very self-centered.
