Mount Vernon agency can’t produce records

MOUNT VERNON -The city’s troubled Urban Renewal Agency says it cannot comply with a 3-month-old request from The Journal News for public records that are at the heart of a federal investigation into financial irregularities.

The attorney for the agency, which has been cited by a federal agency in the past for poor record keeping, said Friday that he could not fill the Freedom of Information Law request because no copies were made before the documents were turned over to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in June.

The records include contracts and other documents on file with the agency, which has been unable to account for more than $2 million in missing public funds.
