Giuliani’s media team

Posted by: Glenn Blain - Posted in 2008, Rudy Giuliani on Aug 23, 2007

Rudy Giuliani’s campaign announced the hiring of several key media consultants today, including some with ties to President George W. Bush’s political operation.

The team is led by Heath Thompson and his Dallas-based firm, Scott Howell & Company. Thompson, worked on both of Bush’s presidential campaigns, including a stint as South Carolina director in 2000.

But Thompson also comes with some controversy, according to an Associated Press story this afternoon. His firm was responsible for the widely criticized commercial run last year by the Republican National Committee against Democratic Senate candidate Harold Ford in Tennessee.

The ad, which was blasted by the NAACP, showed a white woman saying she had met Ford, who is black, at a Playboy-sponsored party. As the ad ended, the woman, her shoulders bared, whispered into the camera, “Harold, call me.

The RNC denied any racial subtext but later asked stations not to run the ad.

Others on Giuliani’s media team include: Scott Howell, who was a member of the Bush/Cheney media team in 2004; Chris Mottola, who was a consultant to former Gov. George Pataki; and Crossroads Media, a media services firm.

The latest polls, just snapshots, yes, show Giuliani doing pretty good. His negatives are much lower than Hillary Clinton’s. But there is a long way to go.
