Letter carrriers to endorse Clinton

Posted by: Brian Tumulty - Posted in 2008, AFL-CIO, Christopher Dodd, Hillary Clinton, John Edwards, unions, White House on Sep 12, 2007

The National Association of Letter Carriers plans to announce its presidential endorsement of Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton at an 11 a.m. press conference at its Washington headquarters today.

Clinton also has been endorsed by the United Transportation Union and the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers.

Earlier this summer, the AFL-CIO’s member unions failed to reach a consensus agreement on backing one candidate. Likewise, the Change to Win Federation of seven unions—including the Teamsters—is not backing one candidate.

As a result, unions have been splitting their support among Democratic hopefuls

Sen. Chris Dodd of Connecticut last month received the official backing of the Interational Association of Fire Fighters.

Former Sen. John Edwards of North Carolina last week received the endorsement of the New York City-based Transport Workers Union, the United Steelworkers and the United Mine Workers of America.
