Drivers’ Licenses for Immigrants

September
21

Gov. Eliot Spitzer is expected to announce today a new Department of Motor Vehicles policy that will let illegal immigrants get New York drivers’ licenses.

The New York Coalition for Immigrants’ Rights to Drivers’ Licenses is applauding the move and holding a press conference today in Manhattan after Spitzer plans to announce the policy at noon in Manhattan.

According to the New York Sun, starting in 2008, the Department of Motor Vehicles will accept foreign passports and birth certificates from immigrants as proofs of identification for new license applications.

SPITZER IS THE MAN! Finally a smart politician!

I have no problem with drivers licenses as proposed
by the governor, however it is time for the US
to have a national identity card which identifies
residents of the US illegal, legal, and everything
in between…it is a national security must

    Mr. Edelman,

Why do you find it necessary to comment on every issue? Do you feel that the readers of this blog are that interested in your opinions?

    Just curious

  4. the consultant

because I have a wide range of political interests
on local and national issues…and that is what
the blogs are for…it really doesn’t matter
if you or anyone else is interested..same goes
for me and your opinions…but I’m having fun
and if you don;t agree with me..simply rebut
my arguments…and I will be having my own
blog in a major publication soon..so you
can join in for enlightened non personal
    political discussionss..hope that answers
the question..assuming I am mr. edelman of course

The Consultant is lined up with only about 30 percent of the people on this one. Giving drivers’ licenses to illegals is, quite simply, rewarding illegal conduct. It’s not exactly a good thing to do. The mood of the country clearly is not in favor of actions like this, as Bush and Congress found out not long ago.

The JN might like it editorially, because the JN loves illegals—- but they don’t buy newspapers, do they?

All this does is add one more reason to the list which many citizen NYers already have for wanting to get of the state. That’s been happening already, and in fairly significant numbers, at that.

Spitzer’s action also will be prime fodder for Republicans in next year’s national election.

  6. the consultant

but consider this ethan…the objective is to identify illegals and to be able to keep track of them for
national security purposes…they are here anyway
and we are not shipping them home en masse…
because once they are in a data base they are no
    longer in the shadows

  7. Joe Public

    consultant…
if you have your own blog does that mean you will no longer comment on this one?

  8. Ethan Edwards

    Consultant,

You are essentially saying “amensty”—but in other words.

This is what the American public was so outraged about
when Bush, Kennedy, McCain and the boys tried to sneak
by that highly-flawed plan a few months ago.

Outside of NYC (except for Staten Island) and parts of Westchester, Spitzer’s action will get the same response.

BTW—Robertson has a full-page ad inside his buddy
Zherk’s Guardian this issue. There is no attribution
or sponsorship named for that full-page ad.

Another full page Robertson ad on the back page says that one was was paid for by “Citizens Against Injustice.” Maybe a Zherka PAC. And maybe nothing at all was paid.

I enjoy Mike’s posts. Although he’s wrong about almost everything, it’s good to read his views =)

Good luck with the new blog and be sure to let us know where to find it.

  10. the consultant

i will let you know when its ready..and of course
i will still post here…and there..and just about
    everywhere…thanks

for ethan you raise an important election law issue
if the newspaper is running ads it is contributing
to the robertson campaign…and those ads should
be valued and filed as campaign contributions
if there is a PAC paying for the ads the same
is true…my guess is that no money has been
paid to the guardian..and that they are simply using
their ability to publish to support robertsons
    candidacy

  11. Ethan Edwards

If so, that removes the Guardian from the “newspaper” category and into an entirely different realm. Legally, that can be a factor in the current suits, which really are lookng very similar to extortion attempts, in my opinion.

No serious publisher would EVER sue the taxpayers of a city in which he is trying to have his paper read.

    It’s that simple.

And you also now know about Zherka’s brother, Ali, and
those Federal criminal charges relating to the Albanian mob.

Is everyone asleep? “If it walks like a duck…”

To top it off, Sam Zherka is now Dennis Robertson’s big ally and friend. Remarkable.

yeah this is a bad move by the gov. we in the us make it so easy for illegals to come here and do what they want all on our dime. i just hope that these same people who normally could not get on a plane without id are not the ones that are going to be flying planes into buildings. bad move

  13. matai

about time to come in light to id every human so we can clear the cave of enemy in our home and abroad we must contain every human born in overseas.

  14. jerry

    You are all idiots.

The (AARP) message board are very attentive to what is happening to America. The American Association of Retired People are over 36 million Seniors who carefully scrutinize Washington, DC and they are a major voting block.Don’t be fooled to thinking us Seniors are Senile, because we are well aware of the pandering public servants that have been elected. One things for sure we know of the globalist agenda of Imperial Bush, his illegal immigration occupation, the Mexican truck issue and keeping low profile of opening free trade commerce through our nation, in the name of profit. We quickly picked up on the McCain/Kennedy Comprehensive immigration travesty and now The Dream Act. We watch both Bill O’Reilly and LouDobbs and we don’t miss a thing! Already posted on the website is a commentary of outrage about issuing ‘Feeder Documents to foreign nationals. Drivers Licenses is a starter I.D. for many other official state docs and give “Carte Blanche’ to the murdering radical terrorist from the Middle East. Personally, I’m sure I read that ading and abeting illegal immigrants was a federal Crime?

Cudos to the governor. Finally somebody realizing that immigrants must be treated as human beings. Yes, let’s round them up and deport them: like the Nazis did in WWII. Shame on all the racists. There will be a comprehensive immigration reform-it is a matter of when, not if.

Republicans will pay next year for their racism: they are fighting a losing battle: it is called demographics. No more “good ole’ boy” America! This must be a welcoming and free country.
The anti-immigrant sentiment shows the inadequacy and fear of predominantly male white-anglo-saxon-protestants to deal with change. And change is the only constant thing in this world…
Bottom line: Thank you Gov. Spitzer!!! Now Congress must follow suit in ‘09. And maybe, just maybe, we could deport people like Senator Sessions from Alabama, Lou Dobbs, and other KKK members. They are disgrace!

  17. Ethan Edwards

Ivan, let everyone know when you have something intelligent to say. So far, no go. You sound like a loon.

RE: Can we STOP this Madness of the Drivers Licenses for Illegals which in reality is being used to UP enrollment of the Dems?

    Sure we can….
All we must do is look for the Convictions (LOL) of our “Republican & Conservative” State Senate to broker a deal with another unrelated chip that the Spitz crowd would want down the road….

GOP Senate should say…..”Hay Spitz, Kill this deal now or we Kill a deal down the road later that you might want….” This also known as politics in Albany…

On the much positive side, At least we see Senator Marty Golden fighting for our side of this issue on the TV networks, he has done a good job…...(Good for you Marty keep it up!)

Although I still would like to know why he and other GOP Senators were pushing for another tax increase of a least $2,000 a year on our Outer Borough Drivers called…..”Congestive Pricing” (Why??)

Finally, This is the one issue (Driver Licenses) that our bankrupt State GOP can use to drum up support Statewide to enhance their grass roots supporters, ALL of which have LEFT the County GOP Parties during the course of the last four years….

This is the “One shot” the State GOP can use to show the grass roots that they have “Finally” starting to take their heads out of their A**......

Even in doing this…....The GOP are still BIG SPENDERS IN ALBANY WHICH IS BANKRUPTING THE STATE.

(Perhaps another MTA, Bridge & Tunnel, Property or School Tax or going ahead with Congestive Pricing & Thruway Toll Increases is the answer for the GOP to continue spending?)

God bless ZHerka and the Westchester Guardian. Yonkers Mayor Phil Amiclown, is a liar and probably the worst Mayor Yonkers has ever had. After reading the stories in the Guardian, I am convinced that this man, Mayor Amiclown, is a moran!! I disagree the Mayor is not DUMBER, actually he is DUMBEST>
