Giuliani on how he would use technology

September
21

Republican presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani told members of the Northern Virginia Technology Council at a breakfast today that he would use technology to reduce illegal immigration and the federal workforce.

With many baby boom generation federal workers due to retire in the next few years, Giuliani said he would downsize the federal workforce and use technological advancements to improve the efficiency of the federal government. “I wouldn’t rehire half,’’ he said.

Giuliani cited his experience in reducing crime as mayor of New York City as applicable to the approach he would use toward illegal immigration.

As mayor, he encouraged the police to develop a computerized, real-time record of crime in deciding when and where to assign police officers and detectives.

Similarly, Giuliani said he would use the same strategy in stopping illegal immigrants from crossing the Mexican border. He also would establish tamper proof ID cards for immigrants that would be required for use in obtaining a job.

Giuliani also said he favors increasing legal immigration and more visas for high tech workers.
