Mount Vernon intrigue continues

Via reporter Ken Valenti:
Don’t close the books yet on the Democratic primary for mayor of Mount Vernon. While County Legislator Clinton Young holds a 349-vote lead over incumbent Mayor Ernest Davis according to unofficial tallies, the Westchester County Board of Elections still holds 633 uncounted ballots. That still gives Davis a chance to catch up.
The votes are mostly on paper ballots filed when a voter runs into problems with his or her registration at the polling place. Others include 28 absentee ballots and seven emergency ballots, usually filed when a voting machine is broken.
Absentee ballots postmarked by Sept. 17  the day before Tuesday’s primary  will continue to be accepted through Tuesday. The machine votes will be recanvassed starting Monday. The Board of Elections expects to review the paper ballots two days later.
The winner of the primary will face Republican Janet Snyder in the November election.
Even if he loses the Democratic line, which is heavily favored in the city, Davis has suggested he might also remain in the race on the Conservative and Independence party lines. Earlier he had said he would support the Democratic victor.

Why did The Journal News stop pursuing the ‘PILOT’ filings that City Council President Steven Horton still refuses to release to the public? Could there be a very personal reason why Steven Horton doesn’t want the information made public?
I think this entire situation smells! 633 uncounted ballots in an election that only 7,500 people voted in isa very high number
IT APPEARS, MR. DAVIS WILL RUN IN ANY CASE.
Alright let’s get real.
Mount Vernon’s future as it relates to the candidates.
One candidate is saying fun and games for our youth.
The other candidate is touting a roundabout, and pipe dream projects.
THE PEOPLE ARE SAYING:
MORE SERVICES MORE SERVICES:
UPDATE THE FIRE DEPARTMENT.
UPDATE THE POLICE DEPT.
INCREASE THE AMBULANCE SERVICES (1 AMBULANCE? SHAME)
SERVICES FOR NEEDY SENIORS.
RESURFACE THE STREETS.
SAFE STREETS.
GET RID OF THE DOPE PEDDLERS AND THUGS.
THESE ARE JUST A FEW OF THE NEEDS FOR OUR CITIZENS.
A MORE EFFECTIVE SCHOOL BOARD (only the citizens can change that)
GENTLEMEN, GET OUT OF THOSE TAILOR MADE SUITS AND OPEN YOUR EARS TO WHAT THE PEOPLE ARE CLAMOURING FOR. SOME GOOD CAN COME OUT OF ALL OF THIS MUDSLINGING, IF YOU WILL DIVERT THOSE PIPE DREAM FUNDS AND THOSE FUNDS FOR REACREATION OF OUR YOUTH, TO THE NEEDS OF ALL CITIZENS, YOU WILL HAVE FULFILLED THE DUTIES OF A MAYORS’ OFFICE.
RECREATION AND EDUCATION PROGRAMS ARE IN PLACE, IN THE AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS OF MOST SCHOOLS, WHICH BY THE WAY ARE UNDERUTILIZED. INCREASING RECREATIONAL ACTIVIES DOES NOT GUARANTEE ATTENDENCE.
PUT YOUR EGOS AND YOUR SUITS IN THE CLOSETS AND REMEMBER, THE MAYOR BELONGS TO THE PEOPLE; THE PEOPLE DO NOT BELONG TO THE MAYOR. POWER TO THE PEOPLE. VOTE AND KEEP THE NEXT ELECTION CLEAN. I HOPE BOTH CANDIDATES ARE LISTENING.
some of what Young proposes: (more than just fun & games for kids)
A direct line to the Mayor
Monthly meetings between the public and all commissioners
A 24 hour promise to respond to all inquiries
Develop a Master Plan for Mount Vernon (MV hasn’t had one in 45 years)
Rebuild Memorial Field
Establish an Economic Development Office
Promote the existing businesses in the community
Attract new business entities
Establish the office of major project development
Educational & Recreational Activities
Jobs – Summer & Training Programs
Safe Schools and Streets
Create a State of the Art Library
Continuous Supervision, maintenance and upkeep of parks
Continued development of affordable housing
TO: FUMIGATE.
I MAY HAVE DOWNPLAYED OR EVEN EXAGGERATED, THEIR PLATFORMS.
MY CONSENSUS, OF YOUR REPLY, LEADS ME TO BELIEVE THAT MORE RED TAPE AND MORE BUREAUCRACY WILL BE THE END RESULT,IF HIS PLATFORM IS INSTITUTED.IN LOOKING OVER YOUR LIST, WHERE DOES
GETTING THE PROPER EQUIPMENT FOR THE FIRE DEPARTMENT, SAFE STREETS AND ALL THE NEEDS OF THE PEOPLE, FIT IN? IS THIS,TOO, A PIPE DREAM? HERE WE GO AGAIN EXPANDING THE GOVERNMENT AND FORGETTING THE PEOPLE. IT MUST BE NICE TO WEAR A SUIT TO WORK.
ALL THE KINGS MEN!
FIRST THINGS FIRST. GET THOSE FIREFIGHTERS THE NEEDED RESOURCES TO PROTECT THEM. AFTER ALL THEY DO PROTECT US. GET THE POLICEMEN THE STATE OF THE ART GEAR. GET SOME AMBULANCES ON THE ROAD. MEMORIAL FIELD HAS BEEN A DISASTER FOR YEARS. GET YOUR PRIORITIES STRAIGHT. HIS PLATFORM IS LAME.
TO FUMIGATE
AS A MATTER OF FACT, ON SECOND LOOK I HAVE ONLY ONE QUESTION.
WHERE’S THE MEAT?
FUMIGATE
MORE OF MY TAX DOLLARS WASTED. PLEASE SHOW THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN YOUR MASTER AND MR. DAVIS. SPEAKING OF TAXES, WILL HIS PLATFORM INCREASE MY TAXES? MORE JOBS ALRIGHT, FOR HIS BUDDIES, AND THE BEAT GOES ON. A DIRECT LINE TO THE KING?
MORE FLUFF.
TO: ALL READERS,
CHECKOUT NEWS CHANNEL 12 NEWSMAKER PROGRAM.
SAT AND SUN
7:30A 8:30A 10:30A, 12:30P 2:30P 4:30P
hmm.
I voted for Clinton Young, and after watching his speech, I had to kick myself in the ass for voting for him. Yes, if Davis stays in the race, he has my vote.
crypto,
Your idea of fluff:
more direct access to City Hall (have you ever tried to get through to someone there, particularly the Mayor or the building dept?), more responsible development planning (it takes me 30 minutes circling my neighborhod to find a legal spot at night, imagine how tough it will be when Davis further develops N. Maquesten Pkwy), a Memorial Field that we could be proud of, summer jobs and job training programs, a modern library that doesn’t leak like a sieve when it rains (Carnegie family helped build it, I’d bet the Carnegie Foundation would contribute to this Mount Vernon landmark). If you think those items are “fluff”, then you have a screw loose.
My father was a retired MV firefighter and few are more sensitive to what they need than I. I’ve written numerous letters to the ediotr of this paper regarding Davis’ crap record on public safety. I’d like to see more specifics as to how Young would address the crumbling station houses and the one year old apparatus that’s out of commission because Ernie refuses to pay to fix it. But if local 107 has endorsed Young over Davis, then they like his ideas better than Davis’ ideas. Low salary and badge drain of the MVPD must be addressed. Ernie got the PBA endorsement, obviously they liked his ideas better, or maybe he just promised them something sweet in their next contract after twelve years of screwing them over. I can easily explain my hatred of Davis, how about you explain why you dislike Young so much.
This is what the Spano machine does best, steal elections!
It’s the reason Young wanted the Feds in to watch the polls.Clinton, go back and read the reports of Nick and Andrea’s first race and watch the reruns.
TO: FUMIGATE,
NOTHING PERSONAL AND MY SCREWS ARE IN TACT AND TIGHT.
LETS’ FORGET DAVIS AND WHAT HAS HAS OR HAS NOT DONE.
LET’S LOOK AT THE PLATFORMS
THE QUESTION IS RESOLVE AND REFORM.
IN ALL THAT YOU HAVE SAID, EVEN ABOUT MY SCREWS, WHERE IS TO CONCERTED EFFORT FOR THE PEOPLE. NOT EVERYONE GOES TO THE LIBRARY, NOT EVERYONE WANTS A TAJ MAHAL TO ADMIRE, NOT EVERYONE WANTS A DIRECT LINE TO THE KING. HOW ABOUT REBUILDING THE INFRASTRUCTURE OF THE CITY. WE COULD HAVE A DIALOGUE ON MOST OF THE PLATFORM ITEMS THAT YOU ARE DESCRIBING, BUT WE KNOW THAT IS NOT GOING TO ACCOMPLISH ANYTHING. WE BOTH KNOW THAT THE MEAT ,OF THIS WHOLE EXCHANGE, IS ABOUT OUR CITIZENS. WE BOTH KNOW THAT THE MAYOR HAS NO CONTROL OVER THE BOARD OF EDUCATION. A CRUMBLING HIGH SCHOOL AND OTHER BUILDINGS UNDER THEIR CONTROL, IN TOTAL DISREPAIR. HOW ABOUT AN OVERSIGHT COMMITTEE?
I HAVE MADE A LIST OF NEEDS, AND THAT WAS ONLY THE TIP OF THE ICEBERG. THE INFRASTRUCTURE INCLUDES ALL PEOPLE SERVICES, FIRE POLICE,SANITATION AFFORDABLE HOUSING ETC. MEMORIAL FIELD. GIVE IT TO THE COUNTY. LET MY COUNTY TAXES GO TO WORK. LOCAL GOVERNMENT HAS FAILED , IT’S MY BELIEF, WILL CONTINUE TO FAIL UNDER ANY ADMINISTRATION TO IMPROVE THIS PROJECT. LET’S FORGET ABOUT THE CANDIDATES FOR MAYOR. ALL PROJECTS HAVE TO BE APPROVE BY THE CITY COUNCIL,PERHAPS WE SHOULD TAKE A CLOSER LOOK AT THEM. I THINK I WILL HMMMMM, MORE TO FOLLOW ON THIS SUBJECT. THEY MAY HAVE MORE POWER THAN THE MAYOR. ARE WE GOING TO REBUILD AND RESTRUCTURE MOUNT VERNON, FOR ONE INDIVIDUAL TO HAVE A STREET, PARK OR BUILDING NAMED AFTER HIM? IF THE CITIZENS ARE THE PRIME CONCERN, THEN I’LL ASK AGAIN, WHERE’S THE MEAT?
TO: FUMIGATE
ALL PROJECT PROPOSALS MUST BE APPROVED, BY THE CITY COUNCIL.
MAYBE WE ARE LOOKING AT THE WRONG PEOPLE. PERHAPS THE COUNCIL IS THE REAL SEAT OF POWER. MAYBE THEY SHOULD BE CATCHING MORE HEAT THAN ANY CANDIDATE, FOR THE FAILURES OF OUR CITY. WE COULD ARGUE ALL DAY ABOUT PROS AND CONS OF EITHER PLATFORM, BUT I DON’T BELIEVE THAT WOULD ACCOMPLISH ANYTHING. I DON’T SEE ANY DEPTH IN EITHER PLATFORM.I HOPE YOU TAKE THIS BACK TO YOUR LEADER, REALIZING THAT I MAY NOT BE ALONE ON MY QUESTION. SERVICE, TO THE PEOPLE,IS PARAMOUNT.
OH, BY THE WAY,MY SCREWS ARE ON TIGHT AND VERY SECURE.
TO FUMIGATE,
I FORGOT TO TELL YOU, I DON’T HATE ANYONE. HATE IS A WASTE OF MY ENERGY. DISLIKE, YES, HATE NEVER.
WHEN I PULL THAT LEVER IN NOVEMBER,I WANT TO BE MY WELL THOUGHT OUT,DECISION, AND NOT A PARTY LINE PULL.
I HAVE THREE OTHER QUESTIONS.
1. DID YOU WATCH THE NEWSMAKER PROGRAM?
2. DID YOUR CANDIDATE COMMIT POLITICAL SUICIDE?
3. WHAT’S YOUR TAKE?
Mr. Davis had good 4 years (first time elected you keep your promises), then 4 decent years (you still try to do the right thing)and finally the last 4 years were a disaster (he owned the CITY). They were inefficient and the lack of response from City Hall departments to the residents and taxpayers was not given in a timely manner. The Mayor is elected by the people and he appoints the Commissioners – ultimately the Commissioners work for the residents and they take forever to respond – all of City Hall needs to be accountable to the taxpayers, after all they have jobs BECAUSE services need to be rendered.
Mr. Davis – move on and let someone else take charge of the City – if it doesn’t work – we always have elections every 4 years.
TO: MV RESIDENT,
WELL SAID. POINTS WELL TAKEN.
I watched the Newsmakers program on Channel 12. I actually had initial optimism that Clinton Young could bring about change, but now I am not sure.
An outburst of epic proportions is a rookie mistake that should never have been made by a career politician. At this point, even if Clinton Young issued a mea culpa, as suggested by the panelists on the program, I still would not trust this man to lead the city. Too little, too late for me.
Diplomacy under pressure is the mark of a true leader. If he displayed such childish behavior in public, I bristle over the idea of what he would do behind closed doors. He seems to forget that at that point in time that he was on the road to victory.
Four years with Clinton Young, will only continue the downward spiral of the social ills that plague this city, because the so called “jackasses- his description of all of the Democratic leaders who supported Davis’ bid, will be reluctant to help this man gain any measure of success. As a matter of fact, I believe that they would intentionally roadblock Young due to bad blood that happened throughout the election. Young would be lucky to be an ineffective one timer at best, until someone less divisive was able to carry the mantle for the city.
Sad, because citizens are the real losers in this entire scenario.
TO: ALL
IS IT TIME FOR TERM LIMITS?
MV READER HAS A VALID POINT IN HIS OR HER ANALYSIS OF THE DAVIS ADMINISTRATION.
TERM LIMITS COULD PREVENT “HAIL TO THE KING” ASSUMPTIONS.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT, THANKS.
OH MY OH MY!
I SEE THERE ARE SOME CRITICAL THINKERS IN MOUNT VERNON NOW.
YES “AVERAGE CITIZEN”, THE CITIZENS OF MOUNT VERNON ARE THE REAL LOSERS IN THIS ENTIRE SCENARIO.
TO: ALL
REALLY ANALYZE WHAT MV READER AND AVERAGE CITIZEN ARE SAYING.
POLICE COMMISSIONER CHONG IS THE MOST PROFESSIONALLY QUALIFIED APPOINTMENT, THAT DAVIS EVER MADE. ALL OTHER CITY COMMISSIONERS ARE SUBJECT FOR FURTHER REVIEW. CITIZENS, MUST DEMAND QUALIFIED INDIVIDUALS AS COMMISSIONERS. NO MORE CRONYISM, AS IT COMPROMISES OUR QUALITY OF LIFE IN THIS CITY.
OK FUMIGATE AT THIS TO YOUR LIST
We must be persistent in our resolve to hold other branches of
government EQUALLY accountable. Citizens’ plaintiff cries have fallen
for far too long on deaf ears. While leaders have consistently touted
the projects that THEY have considered to be a priority, such as the
Roundabout, we have been left with precious few critical services that
have been a serious impediment to sustain our quality of life in this
city.
One ambulance- for a city of 70,000 people- UNACCEPTABLE.
Understaffed fire and police departments for a city of 70,000 people-
UNACCEPTABLE.
Lack of equipment for fire and police departments- forcing a burden
and reliance on neighboring communities for coverage- UNACCEPTABLE.
Fire stations that are unhealthy, outdated, and in need of serious
capital improvement- UNACCEPTABLE.
The lack of consistent adherence to noise ordinances- loud radios
blasting at all hours- UNACCEPTABLE.
Illegal rooming houses and apartments- making once viable
neighborhoods into congested ghettos- UNACCEPTABLE.
School children being dismissed en masse without sufficient police
supervision, causing fear in downtown commercial areas when they
converge- UNACCEPTABLE.
Lack of adult supervised recreation in city parks and playgrounds- UNACCEPTABLE.
Do you believe that the recent pedestrian crossing lights that were
installed with great fanfare needed to take months of lobbying to get
installed? UNACCEPTABLE.
Citizens must advocate for their city, and know that there is a
responsibility to not only call for the mayor to do the best job, but
also the five-body member called the city council. Here is their
function as stated by the city’s website:
>>The Council introduces and enacts all laws and approves the budget
and it can override a mayoral veto by a vote of four-fifths of all the
members.
The City Council’s responsibilities transcend issuing block party
permits. The City Council has consistently APPROVED projects that
have been openly discussed on these boards, that citizens have taken
objection to after their implementation. Could the mayor have ever
moved forward with retail and Roundabout construction without the
approval of City Council?
No longer sit in apathy people! Urge our city council to be equally
responsible in the continuance of good government.
Call City Hall, and let them know that you are interested in having
your grievances addressed RIGHT NOW. Do not think that January will
be a new day, when you have the power to force these elected officials
to address your grievances NOW without delay.
NEXT SUBJECT: THE SCHOOL BOARD AS IT RELATES TO OUR TAXES AND CITY GOVERNMENT.
THIS WILL TAKE SOME THOUGHT.
HOW WILL MR.YOUNG,IF ELECTED, HANDLE ANY ENTITY THAT HAS CONTROL OVER SEVENTY PERCENT OF OUR TAX DOLLARS?
MR. DAVIS WAS COMPLETELY STONEWALLED BY THIS GROUP.
I HAVE MY OPINION, MORE IMPORTANTLY, WHAT IS YOURS?
I HAVE KNOWN CLINTON YOUNG AS A LEGISLATOR FOR 6 YEARS AND HE IS ONE OF THE MOST HONEST MAN I KNOW. HE IS DEFINITELY A MAN OF HIS WORD AND IS VERY FAIR. I THINK HE SAID WHAT HE DID OUT OF ANGER AND FRUSTRATION BECAUSE OF ALL THE CORRUPTION THAT WENT ON ON PRIMARY NIGHT AND IS STILL GOING ON NOW, WITH PEOPLE ON CLINTON’S TEAM BEING THREATNED.
I THINK THE PEOPLE OF MT. VERNON SHOULD GIVE CLINTON YOUNG A CHANCE BECAUSE HE WILL MAKE CHANGES FOR THE PEOPLE BECAUSE HE “IS” FOR THE PEOPLE
Yes, his honesty was on display, but it may have cost him politically. He cannot move this city forward with so many people in high places against him.
I DISAGREE WITH YOU. I SEE HOW MUCH HE HAS DONE AS A LEGISLATOR AND I KNOW HE CAN TURN THE CITY OF MT. VERNON AROUND AND MAKE IT A BETTER PLACE. CLINTON YOUNG IS FOR THE PEOPLE, ALWAYS WAS AND ALWAYS WILL BE. HE WILL HAVE A TOUGH JOB TO UNDO EVERYTHING THAT ERNIE DAVIS DID BUT IF ANYONE CAN DO IT, IT WILL BE CLINTON YOUNG. I THINK THE PEOPLE OF MT. VERNON SHOULD GIVE HIM A CHANCE BECAUSE HE WILL IMPROVE THE CITY THAT HAS BEEN SO CORRUPT ALL THESE YEARS ERNIE DAVIS HAS BEEN IN OFFICE. IT’S TIME FOR HIM TO STEP DOWN AND GIVE A STRONG AND HONEST PERSON A CHANCE
Susan.
you sound like a character reference, for a job applicant.
CRYPTO, NOT TRYING TO SOUND LIKE ANYTHING, JUST FEEL IT’S TIME FOR A CHANGE IN MT. VERNON AND FEEL LIKE THE PEOPLE WHO VOTED ON TUES..THAT IT’S TIME FOR A CHANGE, AND THEY MADE IT CLEAR IT SHOULD BE CLINTON YOUNG
Did either of you gentlemen watch Mr. Young’s rant on election night?
Calling people Jackasses on live television? I thought he had lost the election.
Very frightening!
TO SUSAN
ARE YOU FROM MOUNT VERNON?
SUSAN:
I DON’T BELIEVE MR.YOUNG IS SUPERMAN.
HE NEEDS SOME OF THOSE PEOPLE HE INSULTED. HE CAN’T DO THE JOB BY HIMSELF.
HE MAY HAVE COMMITTED POLITICAL SUICIDE.
CHECK OUT NEWSCHANNEL 12 NEWSMAKER PROGRAM.
CRYPTO, I DIDN’T SAY MR. YOUNG WAS SUPERMAN, I JUST BELIEVE HE CAN TURN THE CITY AROUND. DO YOU HONESTLY THINK ERNIE DAVIS DID A GOOD JOB IN ALL THE YEARS HE WAS MAYOR? DO YOU TRUST HIM? YOU CAN’T TELL ME HE’S NOT AS CORRUPT AS THE DAY IS LONG. BY THE WAY, DID SEE NEWSMAKERS TODAY AND I ALSO SAW IT ON PRIMARY NIGHT WHEN THE SAME 2 GENTLEMEN SAID THAT ERNIE WOULD PROBABLY WIN THE PRIMARY…UH, I THINK THEY WERE WRONG!! SO YOU CAN’T ALWAYS GO BY THE CONSULTANTS
MV will lose out, because of it’s failure to put black and white, north and south aside. Typical MV. We can’t elect him because he is white or we can’t elect him because he is from the other side. MV is suffering as a whole because of it’s failure to put forward the best qualified candidates so the voters have substance rather than flash to choose from. Drive around MV and then drive around the rest of Westchester and the Bronx. Nobody’s fault but MV.
SUSAN:
1. UNDERSTAND I DON’T LIKE EITHER MR. DAVIS OR MR. YOUNG.
2. WE MUST HAVE BEEN WATCHING TWO DIFFERENT PROGRAMS ON PRIMARY NIGHT. AFTER MR. YOUNG GAVE HIS VICTORY SPEECH ALL FOUR MEMBERS OF THAT PANEL WERE IN TOTAL SHOCK.
3. WHAT I OBJECT TO, IS YOUR ACCUSATION OF CORRUPTTION. I’M SURE YOU MUST HAVE FACTS AND I REPEAT FACTS ABOUT THE CORRUPTION OF WHICH YOU SPEAK. THERE HAVE BEEN NO ARRESTS, INDICTMENTS, OR CONVICTION OF ANYONE IN OUR CITY GOVERNMENT. I’M ALWAYS CAREFUL OF WHAT I SAY BECAUSE IT MIGHT LEAD TO A CIVIL COURT ACTION. IF YOU KNOW AS A MATTER OF FACT, THAT A PERSON HAS BEEN PROVEN TO BE CORRUPT, I CAN ACCEPT THAT. BUT TO ASSUME, BY ACCUSATION, THAT A PERSON IS SOMETHING , THAT THEY REALLY ARE NOT, CAN BE VERY DANGEROUS.
4. YOU NEVER REPLIED TO MY QUESTION, ABOUT YOUR RESIDENCY, SO I’M ASSUMING I’M RESPONDING TO ONE OF MR. YOUNG’S PERSONAL FRIENDS RESIDING OUTSIDE OF THE CITY LIMITS. I’M COMING FROM A NEUTRAL POSITION, LOOKING FOR THE CANDIDATE THAT WILL GET MY VOTE IN NOVEMBER. YOUR COMMENTS HAVE NO WEIGHT FACTOR, AS IT RELATES TO MY DECISION.
5. IF YOU ARE NOT A CITIZEN, THIS MEANS YOU CAN’T VOTE. ENOUGH SAID.
US CHILLUN IN THIS FIELD DO NOT NEED THE GUIDANCE OF THE MISTRESS OR THE MASTER OF THE BIG HOUSE.
WARM REGARDS
LET’S BE FOR REAL PEOPLE.
ACCOMPLISHMENTS AND SUCCESS FOR ANY CITY CAN ONLY BE MADE BY POWER.
AS DISPLAYED BY THE BLOOMBERGS, TRUMPS AND MANY OTHER INDIVIDUALS WHO POSSESS CLOUT AND INFLUENCE.
IF MOUNT VERNON IS TO FORGE AHEAD, IT NEEDS POLITICAL CLOUT AND CONNECTIONS.
NO MAN IS AN ISLAND.
QUESTION,
WHERE’S THE JUICE?
Susan does not live here, or she would clearly have the vocabulary and substance to go beyond the hackneyed assumption that the mayor is “corrupt.” If Susan Bruno is your real name, you should realize that your accusations about the mayor and his activities are rather libelous, unless you have solid proof.
Phil Reisman has a very interesting column today about the MV campaign in general. I suggest that you read it as an enlightening primer, to understand the current state of affairs in the city that you do not reside in.
http://www.thejournalnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070923/NEWS02/709230348/1018/NEWS02
CRYPTO,
SORRY DIDN’T SEE WHERE YOU ASKED ME IF I LIVE IN MV..YES I DO
I JUST READ PHIL REISMAN’ COLUMN IN TODAYS JOURNAL NEWS.
I FOUND IT QUITE INTERESTING.
The City needs to heal, let’s move forward. The Government needs to be more responsive to the people and it should reflect the diversity within the City. Look into the City Hall website and see for yourself.
Mount Vernon’s structure as a black community per say is no longer the order of the day, look around – it is changing. In a little over 4 sq. miles there are people from many cultural/religious backgrounds who have been on the marginal side of government and politics. Only but a very few have been allowed to really participate in local government – will it change in the future? Real estate offices in town actually sell Mount Vernon as a great city who has plenty of diversity even when the school system is not the best and families send their children to private schools, and continue to pay high property taxes.
It is time that the new government and the City begins to be more inclusive of all the ethnic groups allowing for greater participation in the political and policy processes. Paying high property taxes is not a black and white issue, the Board of Education system is not a black and white issue, the Library is a learning center that should be maximize to teach about diversity and the need for basic services such as clean streets and a safer city is not a black and white issue – it is the RESIDENTS’ rights to have these services delivered and it is the RESIDENTS responsibilities to be respectful and take care of their City. There are a lot of Brazilians, Italians and Latinos and among many other ethnic/religious/cultural groups and we pay for services and we need services – and we also want to be part of the process. Mr. Davis sent a letter in various languages appealing to their vote – will someone really deliver to these communities?
my father used to have a saying that there were people
that were sore winners…ie even when they won they
couldn’t handle it graciously ..they let their emotions
run away and hurled insults and epithets at those over
whom they were victorious..I have been involved in politics
and the state and local level since 1964 and never have I
witness the kind of vicuois acceptance rhetoric that clinton
young used at his election night gathering….when a
politician has that much hate, anger and bile built
up during a campaign…one can imagine how nasty
he could be when given the reigns of government
the issue is now that we have see the real clinton
young..is he the man mt vernonites want in charge
of their local government…I don;t live in mount
vernon so I don;t have a say in that election but
if that happened where I live I know what my
reaction would be
To: Concerned Resident,
A breath of fresh air.
THANK YOU
TO: The Consultant
Food for thought.
Thanks
MR. YOUNG
MR. DAVIS
C A N Y O U H E A R U S N O W ?
To the consultant (Mike Edelman), stop looking for a job from Ernie Davis. You were the same one that said, Clinton Young didn’t have a chance when the Conservative party endorsed Ernie. So much for your consultation. Stop worrying about MV and worry about getting your party in order.
Once the pressure is put on Ernie to step down, he will do the right thing and step down. All this talk of running again is just keeping MV further divide and delaying the healing process.
Concerned Citizen hit it right on the head.
To consultant as my grandmother always told me dont worry about cleaning someone else’s backyard just make sure yours is clean. EXACTLY! If you are not a resident of the city of Mount Vernon than mind your own business. Make sure your political and personal background is together. We dont need advice from amateurs. See ya!
What I’m trying to say to you (Consultant) is that you must be a resident and a campaign member for Davis cause if you wasnt you wouldnt even waste your time to comment. So stop the bull crap. Stop changing your names to make you appear as someone else. We all know the truth. Stop faking. Do we really want Ernie to represent our city for another 4 years cause if people like yourself represents him then we dont need no fake person ruling over our city anymore. Stay truthful!
An ounce of TERM LIMITS, is an ounce of CURE.
TERM LIMITS TERM LIMITS TERM LIMITS
BRINGS NEW CANIDATES V NEW CANDIDATES
If Davis Runs I will Vote for Davis… Clinton really showed his self on Tuesday and it was not professional… Mount Vernon is not an easy city to manage and if he can’t handle something this small this he needs to go back to the County
Mayor Davis with friends like David Ford and Reginal Lafeyytte who in the HELL need enemies.
Man no wonder you lose the primary. Talking about two faced (b’s).
RUN DAVIS RUN.
