Drivers’ License Debate Heats Up

September
28

Republicans are stepping up their assault on Gov. Eliot Spitzer’s plan to let New Yorkers obtain driver licenses without regard to immigration status.

The Assembly Republicans vowed this morning to sue Spitzer if his plan takes effect, while Senate Republicans say they will submit legislation that would prohibit illegal aliens from getting driver’s licenses.

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg has also expressed concern about the plan. Yet Spitzer fired back during a visit to Rochester on Thursday that Bloomberg is “wrong at every level—dead wrong, factually wrong, legally wrong, morally wrong, ethically wrong.”

Spitzer’s plan calls for allowing illegal immigrants to use foreign passports as proof of identity, instead of other documents that show legal immigration.

Assembly Minority Leader James Tedisco, R-Schenectady, accused Spitzer of putting “politics above public safety,” saying Spitzer is trying to court votes from immigrants.

    Spitzer’s arrogance is showing again.

    Everyone’s wrong but him, eh?

    We’ll see.

Where is Greg Ball when we need him. Here is a real issue Greg Ball can address and he is silent, maybe Greg does not want to get his friend Eliot made at him.

Come on Greg where are you, isn’t this the perfect issue for the anti immigration Assemblyman.

Lets see if Greg Ball shows his true colors.

Immigration is one thing; this is a free for all. I can just see the mass exodus of illegals from all over the Northeast to the New York DMV for their license.

What I found especially incredible is 150,000 people lost their licenses in 2003 when a DMV search revealled “no match” between name and social security number. These people knowingly submitted false documents to obtain their licenses. Spitzer now wants to extend an opportunity to these SAME individuals under his new plan, and trusts that they will use legitimate documents this time around.

I’m wondering if I have any right to sue under equal protection as passing this law will render MY license invalid for purposes of traveling in an airplane or entering a federal building.

I agree with Jonathan, where is the mouth from Patterson on this topic. I have not heard one word from Greg Ball on this proposal from Governor Spitzer. Is Ball really against illegal immigration or is he just a publicity hound.

One would expect a strong statment of opposition from Greg Ball on the Governors proposal.

ETAN I HAVE CHANGED MY OPINION..YOU ARE CORRECT THE
DOWNSIDE IS GREATER THAN THE UPSIDE IN TERMS OF
POSSIBLE MOTOR VOTER FRAUD ETC…..STILL THINK
NATIONAL ID CARD IS THE BEST WAY TO GO

Governor Spitzer needs to be brought under control, as he is opening up New York for another devastating attack by terrorist jurhadists. Giving drivers licenses to foreign national is dangerous agenda, because it encourages more illegal aliens to swamp the metropolis. furthermore it is against the 1986 Simpson/ Mazzoli immigration law.

    Federal Immigration and Nationality Act
    Section 8 USC 1324(a)(1)(A)(iv)(b)(iii)
    Partial Section of the Law:
    Encouraging and Harboring Illegal Aliens
It is a violation of law for any person to conceal, harbor, or shield from detection in any place, including any building or means of transportation, any alien who is in the United States in violation of law. HARBORING MEANS ANY CONDUCT THAT TENDS TO SUBSTANTIALLY FACILITATE AN ALIEN TO REMAIN IN THE U.S. ILLEGALLY. The sheltering need not be clandestine, and harboring covers aliens arrested outdoors, as well as in a building. This provision includes harboring an alien who entered the U.S. legally but has since lost his legal status.

How can I help (ICE) Immigration & Customs Enforcement to protect my home, business and community? Notify ICE of inappropriate or suspicious behavior, including communications received by phone, fax, e-mail, third party, verbal communication or in writing. Always report crimes. To report suspicious activity, call our toll-free tip line at 1-866-DHS-2ICE. ”

Arizona, Colorado, Georgia, Oklahoma, Missouri and soon Kansas have enacted harsh Immigration laws, to stop the hemorrhaging of the states economy. America can no longer support employers who hire foreign nationals for massive profits, while the citizens foot the bill. The media reports that their are large numbers of people fleeing these states, who are either self-deporting or are searching for a Sanctuary state or community. California is liable tip over and fall into the Pacific Ocean, but earthquakes will not be the cause?

About time that businesses and illegal immigrants looked over their shoulder?

I HAVE A QUESTION.. WHERE DOES ANDREA “DO NOTHING” STAND ON THIS VERY BAD IDEA? DON’T THEY REALIZE THAT THESE PEOPLE WILL BE ABLE TO GET ON PLANES? THIS IS A JOKE!

  9. Carson

    Governor or Pope!

We have criminals in this country boldly going where no criminals have gone before, right out in front of the Main Stream Media.

It is long over due that we report these acts of aiding and abetting. It could just be the trigger that the police need to act.

Many police departments, sheriffs departments, prosecuting attorneys and other law enforcement agency’s can now be contacted online.

Many in law enforcement feel the same as we do about this illegal invasion.

    Federal Immigration and Nationality Act
    Section 8 USC 1324(a)(1)(A)(iv)(b)(iii)

“Any person who . . . encourages or induces an alien to . . . reside . . . knowing or in reckless disregard of the fact that such . . . residence is . . . in violation of law, shall be punished as provided . . . for each alien in respect to whom such a violation occurs . . . fined under title 18 . . . imprisoned not more than 5 years, or both.”
Section 274 felonies under the federal Immigration and Nationality Act, INA 274A(a)(1)(A):
A person (including a group of persons, business, organization, or local government) commits a federal felony when she or he:

    • assists an alien s/he should reasonably know is illegally in the U.S. or who lacks employment authorization, by transporting, sheltering, or assisting him or her to obtain employment, or
    • encourages that alien to remain in the U.S. by referring him or her to an employer or by acting as employer or agent for an employer in any way, or
    • knowingly assists illegal aliens due to personal convictions.

    Lou,

Who is Andrea Stewart-Cousins? Is she the one
that has disappeared like Amelia Earhart did?

  11. LOU

ETHAN – THAT’S HER.. I WONDER WHERE SHE STANDS ON THESES IMPORTANT ISSUES…..

  12. the consultant

SHE DOESN’T STAND SHE SITS….AND WAITS FOR NICK TO
    MAKE RUN AT HER

  13. Ethan Edwards

The only issue I have seen her take a stand or seat on is Jena, Louisiana. Was she part of that radical forum put on by the Yonkers NAACP on Saturday?

It was a forum dominated by outside instigators and
professional agitators and radicals. But the JN played
that important part of it way down. Why is that? (Rhetorical question.)

  14. Emma

A driver’s license is all that is currently required to register to vote in New York. Item 9 on the Voter Registration Form asks for either the last four digits of your SSN OR you DMV (driver’s license) number.

It really makes you wonder if Spitzer’s crusade to grant licenses to illegal immigrants doesn’t have more to do with increasing the Democratic base by any means necessary? (legal or otherwise)

Mad? Go to wgy.com. Under “on air” click on Al Roney. On the right hand side he has info on this—and a link to a forum that a listener started. They are talking about a rally in Albany on 10/22. If you are interested, join the discussion. If you can’t make it, spread the word.
