It’s official: Mount Vernon Mayor Ernest Davis will continue his re-election campaign.
Davis will detail the reasons for his decision at a 6 p.m. press conference at the Portal/Elks Lodge in the city. An email sent this morning announcing the event says: “Subject: Mayor Davis Will Continue. Event: Mayor Ernie Davis Announces He will Continue Campaign.
The speech he is expected to deliver is titled, “Don’t Stop Believing.
Davis lost the Democratic primary Sept. 18 by several hundred votes to Westchester County Legislator Clinton Young; those results are expected to be certified today by the county Board of Elections.
The mayor had previously said he would support the Democratic nominee. However, Davis also had secured the Conservative and Independence Party lines, giving him the right to run through the November election.

If Davis wants to run again I’m not mad at him. Davis has a lot of unfinished business and if he dont keep up with those promises than he will be in trouble. Right now by Davis running on an Independent line lets you know this race is strictly and only about his own personal welfare and not the communities.
If Clinto Young only could have been a gracious winner on primary evening Davis would have stepped aside.
::EXCLUSIVE::
Preview of Mayor Davis’ campaign speech –
“Working hard to get my fill,
Everybody wants a thrill
Payin anything to roll the dice,
Just one more time
Some will win, some will lose
Some were born to sing the blues
Oh, the movie never ends
It goes on and on and on and on”
All I have to say is more power to you Mr. Davis. I can’t wait to see how you run your campaign and if it makes a difference because apparently the people of Mt.Vernon want a change and it looks like they made it very clear on Primary Day Sept 18. You should really bow out graciously.
Almost Everyone is rallying around Clinton Young. How can Davis win?? Are you trying to tell me that Davis lost a campaign where he spend almost a half of a million dollars, was the incumbent, had the backing of the democratic party, numerous endorsements and several pastors and still lost is now going to win on the conservative party line with less than $100,000 and no democratic party support. If you believe that, I have a bridge in Brooklyn I want to sell you.
Everyone is supporting Young. The Clergy, The People, Assemblyman Gary Pretlow, Councilman Steve Horton, Councilwoman Loretta Hottinger, Councilman William Randolph,Councilman Lyndon Williams, Regginald Lafayette, David Ford, Governor Spitzer, US Senator Charles Schumer, US Senator Hillary Clinton, The Mount Vernon Democratic Party, The Westchester Democratic party, The New York State Democratic Party, The Westchester/Putnam ALF-CIO, Central Labor Body, The MV United Firefighters, Bill Ryan The Chairman of the Board of Legislators, MV Federation of Teachers and a whole lot more people
Davis GIVE IT UP!!!!
Clinton Young for Mayor
Ernie Davis is a joke and has to got be the worst Mayor that Mount Vernon has ever seen. His word means nothing anymore. He said he would support the winner of the Democratic Primary, but then again he said he would build a world class hotel and sports arena in the middle of Mount Vernon just to name a few.
Curious to see who Ms. Serphear Conn is going to endorse. She needs to be replace immediately as Chairwoman of the Democratic Party. She has proved that she is incapable of real leadership, that is why Lyndonn Williams destroyed her. What a joke!
I dont understand how Davis can still have any honest followers. Democratic and Independent states completely different things. How can you follow someone who dont stand by their word. Davis stated he will support the Democratic party if he looses and he lost and he completely took back what he stated on the news in front of hundreds and hundreds of people. Davis had my vote in the primary but he could never have it in the general election. You have to stand for something and he stands for nothing. If you are a Democrat than I will respect you as a Democrat even if I’m a Republican but dont switch up on me cause than I dont look at you as a man in high standing I will begin to look at you as a confused man. All I’m saying is you lost just stand down cause you are going to lose more of your followers. It’s alright to lose.
Mr. Young,
I hope you see the course this campaign has taken, as a result of a political faux pas.
It might be too little, too late for a course correction.
Once the curtains the voting booth, are closed. What lurks in the hearts of the people shall be revealed, after the votes are counted in November.
Hmmm
FOOD FOR THOUGHT
Critics believed the NY Mets were the obvious winners and would be in the post season playoffs. Show me what you are made of, in this political playoff.
Let’s not forget what happened in Greenburgh.
Mr. Cryptoguardian if Davis wins in November now that’s a big IF it would only be cause him and Lafayette cheated together. They tried to do it for the primary but Lafayette was smart he thought to himself and said is it really worth it cause I’m not going to jail for no one. Now Davis is a man who is dangerous cause he has nothing to lose. The most dangerous man in the world is a man who has nothing to lose cause they will do anything to get what they want, rob, steal, cheat, murder etc.. Davis is in debt and buyers and contractors are angry so Davis needs to be mayor badly. This election for Davis is all about Davis. This election to Clinton is all about the community. Now you tell me Crypto who side are you on good or bad? Good or Bad/ Good/Bad Good/Bad. You dont have to answer I already know the answer Davis side. May the Lord bless ya.
Dont know where Davis will receive his funding from for his campaign cause Democratic campaign headquarters now belongs to Clinton Young. Now let’s see what Ms. Serapher no good Halevi will do now. Let’s see if she will keep and promote her word D E M O C R A C Y !
the political difference between mount vernon and
greenburgh is that in greenburgh a political
leader tried to oust the incumbant in a democratic
primary and lost….here davis has already lost
a democratic primary and is going to try to beat
a democrat on the conservative and Ind lines
not really possible to do
I’m with you consultant!
Marybeth
Serphear Conn needs to be dismissed. She is a disgrace to the Democratic Party and Mount Vernon as a whole. Mr. Davis is going into further political debt with the developers, they are the ones funding his campaign. Crypto, pick a side and run with it (good or bad). This community is going nowhere in a hurry and is about to be even more divided than it was on September 19, 2007. Mr. Davis was going all along. YOU DON’T GO AND GET OTHER PARTY LINES IF YOU DON’T INTEND TO RUN ON THEM. HE KNEW HIS TIME WAS UP AND PEOPLE WERE QUESTIONING HIS LEADERSHIP!
NEVER RAN ON OTHER LINES IN THE PAST, WHY IS HE STARTING NOW?
TO; THE CONSULTANT
Well Mike,
I see you are scanning the blogs again. Trying to get info for your weekend show? Some of what you have said on your past shows, sounds as if you generated you script from blog comments. I will not comment any further about Greenburgh. You are a paid consultant, so you would not know what point I’m attempting to make. After all who am I to go against such a high powered analyst, like you? I’m just plain everyday people. In any event, thanks for the idiot lesson.
On what party line did Joe Lieberman win in Connecticut? My point is that the voting public does not necessarily conform to party lines. The people are the party, the party leaders are what they are, party leaders. I’ll tune in Sat A.M., so I can tune you out.
I believe Mr. Young has to present a more detailed platform and convince the majority of the voters, that he has a concrete vision for the city. Right now I’m leaning in his direction, but I don’t know how I will feel in November, after all I’m just regular folks.
What do I know?
I FORGOT TO ASK YOU MIKE,
Isn’t Clinton Young a perfect example of a candidate not backed by his party? He won.
Marybeth,
I don’t like to pick sides. This is not a football game. I value my right to vote, I think long and hard, before I pull that lever.
I can always tune in a football game and cheer for a team. The outcome will have no effect on my personal life.
My vote, on the other hand, has an effect on my quality of life. I put a high value on my right to vote. I cherish it and protect it as I would my life.
