Rockland District Attorney Michael Bongiorno and Democrat Tom Zugibe, each snared endorsements.
Zugibe, a former prosecutor and West Haverstraw justice for 18 years until January, captured the backing of the leadership of the Civil Service Employees Association of Region 3, which represents 40,000 members in the Southern Tier of New York.
Bongiorno, aÂÂ Republican,ÂÂ won support from the leaders of the Police Benevolent Association of the New York State Troopers. The union represents more than 6,000 active and retired, uniformed members of the NYS police from the rank of trooper through major.
In backing Zugibe, CSEA Region 3 President Diane Hewitt cited his â€Å“dedication to the labor movement and working families.”
ÂÂ Zugibe was previously endorsed by the leaders of the Rockland Patrolmen’s Benevolent Associations, along with the PBAs in Ramapo and Haverstraw. He has all PBAs in the county behind him. Three PBA presidents – Cyril Kerr of the county PBA, John Lawless of Haverstraw and Dennis Procter of Ramapo- have done ads broadcast on cable television for Zugibe.
â€Å“I am honored to have the support of the CSEA,” Zugibe said in a news release. “The Civil Service Employees Association is an extraordinary union, representing dedicated, hard-working public employees, and I look forward to serving its membership as the next District Attorney of Rockland County.”
ÂÂ In endorsing Bongiorno, the New York State Troopers PBA leadership also added to the district attorney’s pro-law enforcement credentials.
“We need individuals like Michael Bongiorno in leadership positions to help law enforcement officers better serve the residents of New York State,” union president, Daniel M. De Federicis said. â€Å“Michael Bongiorno has proven himself as a tough prosecutor who makes special efforts to support and seek justice for crime victims.” De Federics said. “His work over the years has complemented the work of the men and women who have dedicated their lives to law enforcement. He is well respected by not only the law enforcement community, but also by business owners and residents throughout the county.â€?
Bongiorno, already has been endorsed by the the New York State Police Investigators Association, the New York City Sergeants Benevolent Association, Rockland County Correction Officers Benevolent Association, Rockland County Sheriff’s Deputies Association, New York Supreme Court Officers Association, New York State Court Officers Association, Detectives’ Endowment Association, Westchester County Correction Officers Benevolent Association, the Sheriff’s Officers Association of Nassau County, the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Employee Association, and the Suffolk County Correction Officers Association.

40,000 members in the southern tier…..what a stretch…who the hell approved that press release, I dont consider myself a southern tier resident, nor do any other Rockland residents I’m sure. Another example of interlopers trying to influence local politics.
Southern Tier, Do they even read their own stuff??
ARE YOU KIDDING?
YOU REPORT ENDORSEMENTS TO MIKE BONGIORNO FROM POLICE ORGANIZATIONS WHO DON’T DEAL WITH MIKE BONGIORNO OR ROCKLAND COUNTY. HOW PITIFUL IS IT THAT A SITTING DISTRICT ATTORNEY NEEDS TO HAVE ENDORSEMENTS FROM NASSAU COUNTY, SUFFOLK COUNTY, WESTCHESTER COUNTY AND NEW YORK CITY. ALL NINE PBAS OF ROCKLAND COUNTY HAVE ENDORSED TOMMY ZUGIBE. THE PEOPLE WHO ARREST UPWARDS OF 99% OF ALL DEFENDANTS IN ROCKLAND COUNTY ENDORSE TOMMY ZUGIBE. THE 1% OR SO ARE FROM THE OCCASIONAL ARREST OF THE STATE TROOPERS, THE OCCASIONAL ARREST FROM THE SHERIFF’S PATROL AND PEOPLE WHO ARE ARRESTED FOR CRIMES WITHIN THE JAIL. DAY TO DAY LAW ENFORCEMENT, REPRESENTING ALL THE POLICE OFFICERS OF ROCKLAND COUNTY HAVE ENDORSED TOMMY ZUGIBE.
THE CSCA ENDORSEMENT IS POWERFUL BECAUSE MIKE BONGIORNO WORKS WITH THE CSCA AND THEY DON’T WANT HIM.
THE ROCKLAND COUNTY POLICE DEPARTMENTS HAVE SIMPLY VOTED A VOTE OF NO CONFIDENCE FOR MICHAEL BONGIORNO.
Stop shouting noob, The Troopers endorsement means more to me than all the local “special interest” pbas. The Troopers have always been above local politics and call a race based on merits.
Michael Bongiorno is the most diligent and effective prosecutor in New York State. He ranks with Vincent Bugliosi, Frank Hogan, and Robert Morgenthau in the annals of great American DAs. (Bugliosi as an executive assistant DA.) Bongiorno’s office has put drug dealers, murderers, and child molesters away for the past twelve years. His opponent is not a prosecutor. And yes, the State Troopers know what they’re doing.
I can’t believe anybody (except criminals) could seriously dislike Michael Bongiorno, or have any criticism of the Rockland DA’s Office during his tenure, in which crime has decreased dramatically in Rockland owing to his initiatives.
You have got to be kidding me. Bongiorno couldn’t find the Courtroom with a map. He has never tried a case in 12 years. In New York CIty, He was demoted and sent to sit in a misdemeanor court- the lowest in Manhattan. He has never pursued a white collar case of any of his friends in Ramapo. He lost the Brinks case by making a rookie mistake of not pleading the statute of limitations. He’s prosecuted innocent people-see the White Castle case that his friend Steve Lieberman didn’t report on even though CBS, NBC, ABC and Channel 12 all covered as lead stories. His own cops don’t want him. His own employees(CSEA) dont want him. His Assistants are quitting at record levels. He was hand picked by George Pataki and Al Damato (one of his biggest contributors) and now we’re stuck with him.
Enough is Enough- Rockland deserved better.
“Bill or True Blue” – If you are going to lie about people and events, have the guts to leave your name. The “rookie” mistake comment is similar to a comment printed from the Dem candidate for DA. interesting
