Sharpton takes aim at Cheney’s hunt club

October
29

The Rev. Al Sharpton isn’t too happy with the Duttchess County hunt club Vice President Dick Cheney chose to visit today. Sharpton’s statement:

â€Å“It has been reported to us by media on the site that Vice President Dick Cheney is duck and pheasant hunting in Dutchess County at the Clove Valley Rod & Gun Club outside of Lagrangeville in Union Vale, New York, and there is a Confederate Flag hanging at the club. I am calling on Vice President Cheney to leave immediately and denounce the club and apologize for going to a club that represents lynching, hate, and murder to black people. In this age of Jena and hangmen nooses all over the country, for the Vice President to relax under the flag of the hangmen nooses is an unpardonable insult to all Americans, particularly Blacks. He ought to leave immediately, call for the flag to be brought down at once, and apologize for being connected to an institution that would be insensitive enough to fly it in the first place. What is interesting to me is that this is not even in the South that it is flying. The club owners must identify with the philosophy of the Confederacy because they can’t say that they are a historic club that 200 years ago was a part of the Confederacy since New York was never a confederate state.â€? If Cheney does not leave, I will bring a delegation of clergy to lead a prayer vigil in the immediate future.â€?

You know, Al… As much as I think Mr. Cheney belongs in a Syrian prison, with thousands of young Americans coming home wounded, in body bags and in other desperate straits; with 40some odd million Americans without health insurance, with the economy slowly sliding into the tank, with a brewing war against Iran and with the rest of the Middle East about to explode into what could be a global catastrophe, the least of your concerns should be Dick Cheney’s hunting trip or the Confederate Flag. Get real, dude.

    Kingpin No 1:
The chief kingpin to all of our strife is campaign financing. Of the
many threats to our civilization the present method of supporting
candidates for office, is the worst. It is commonly recognised to be
bad, but what seems to be missed is that what has become the pathway to
what we now have; a “tyrannical plutocracy”, has spelled the end to
what little democracy remains. For those who don’t know what a
plutocracy is, it is the rich and powerful in absolute control of the
non-rich. We now have what has been described as “Yawn America”. It is
inevitable that with the majority poorly educated, our vaunted freedoms
get abused by the greedy. Momentarily, we are lulled by dead end
falsely secure jobs, inundeluting media, essentially propagandistic and
trivial news, and scare stories about terrorists. (who, if we really
think about it, are a threat only against businesses).

Ideally, campaign financing should be free to qualified candidates.
This removes the devilish bribery now prevalent which puts the rich in
control. Fatalistically, it probably can’t happen, but with citizens
really owning the electronic conduits, they need to insist that the
licensees arrange cost-free means for the candidates to vie with each
other to become true representatives for the public.

The Club is a private entity and I can’t imagine him being welcome. IF he wants to bring a larg group….good luck amongst the deer, foxes and all the woods they would have to deal with. It would be funniest home/news video to see his gang in the woods.
