Clinton opposes Mukasey for attorney general

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton announced this afternoon she will vote against the nomination of Judge Michael Mukasey to serve as attrorney general.
Her announcement was made several hours before the latest Democratic presidential debate. Tonight’s debate will be broadcast live on MSNBC from the campus of Drexel University in Pennsylvania.
Sen. Barack Obama and former Sen. John Edwards arte widely expected to step up their attacks on Clinton in light of recent polls that show her lead is widening over the rest of the Democratic field.
This afternoon’s announcement on her opposition to Mukaskey’s nomination is likely to steal some of the limelight.
Meanwhile, New Yorks senior senator—Sen. Chuck Schumer—has been officially backing the nomination. Schumer introduced the New York judge at his confirmation hearing.
Clinton stated in a press release, she was “deeply troubled by Judge Mukasey’s continued unwillingness to clearly state his views on torture and unchecked executive power.’’
â€Å“The attorney general is the chief defender of the rule of law in our country,’’ she stated. “After Alberto Gonzales’s troubled tenure, we cannot send a signal that the next attorney general in any way condones torture or believes that the president is unconstrained by law. When we leave any doubt about our nation’s policy on torture, we send a terrible message to the rest of the world. Judge Mukasey has been given ample opportunity – both at his confirmation hearings and in his subsequent submission to the Judiciary Committee – to clarify his answers and categorically oppose the unacceptable interrogation techniques employed by this Administration. His failure to do so leaves me no choice but to oppose his nomination.’’

RE: Clinton & Media
My most frustrating days as Deputy Campaign Manager for the US Senate race last year, (For the GOP & Conservative Party candidate) was with the media.
It never ceases to amaze me that Hillary Clinton is/was NEVER held accountable for her FAILED workings here in Western New York State.
In her first term running for United States Senate, Clinton promised those suffering in Western New York … Economic Development, More Jobs and to Repopulate this Region of NY.
Clinton was to do so by “Promoting” Western New York State to American Business! Clinton Promised Western New York 250,000 NEW jobs by the end of her first term (Promising to Promote WNY to American Business Corporations)....
End result…..Is by the time Clinton was running for her second term, Western New York LOST another 25,000 Jobs.
(Clinton as of last year, should have now been held accountable for failing in the creation of 275,000 New jobs)
(FYI…Western New York State is considered Cities of Rochester, Buffalo Regions, sometimes Syracuse is put into this league, although it is located in Central NY….Syracuse and “West of” are considered WNY)
In each and every Newspaper interview that I attended with WNY Editorial Boards, those that sat on the board always brought that question up to us…..
Those on the WNY newspaper editorial boards always had “Numb Faces” as we discussed this matter. I was always looking for their answers/spins to that very question. (They had no answers for Clinton’s lies & failures) Those on the editorial boards in WNY NEVER defended Clinton on her failings in jobs creation.
End result….Is that Buffalo’s (NY’s 2nd Largest City) population has been cut in half. Erie County and the City of Buffalo are still held captive by a “Financial Control Board” .......25 to 40,000 Homes are abandoned by people who have left WNY because they can’t sell their homes to buyers.
My question….Is there something wrong with this picture? Will any of the New York Media ever advise the “National Media” to bring this question to attention to the American voters?
Clinton has used this State and might soon be leaving this State. Clinton has delivered nothing in regard to help to those who live in WNY.

This is very shortsighted on the Democrat’s part. Currently, they are favored to win the White House in ‘08. How on earth do they think Republicans reciprocate after the majority of Democrats opposed Alito, split on Roberts, and now oppose someone that Senator Schumer actually recommended that the President choose to be on the Supreme Court?
The President picks Mukasey someone specifically over another well-qualified and probably preferred candidate, Ted Olsen, specifically to avoid a fight and many if not the majority of Senate Democrats are still voting
against his confirmation.
A poor policy and a poor political movey. Mukasey will still be confirmed but when there is a Democrat in the White House, Republicans will retaliate.

Disgraceful. Mukasey was widely respected as a top notch federal judge – by all. He has enormous experience, great intellect and an independent mind. And he is a New Yorker. Clinton is voting against a consensus candidate from her own state. This proves, once again, that this women does not have a shred of decency or honor and that she is nothing but a cold, calculating and ruthless politician. She only cares about power and her own advancement. This dangerous woman needs to be stopped before she gets to White House.
