Mayor Davis doesn’t talk about the FBI

Posted by: Glenn Blain - Posted in 2007, Ernest Davis, Mount Vernon on Nov 01, 2007

Can things get any more bizarre in Mount Vernon?

Mayor Ernie Davis’ office summoned reporters to the steps of City Hall today for a 3 p.m. press conference that, according to a media advisory sent by his office, would “announce a major development in the FBI probe of City Hall.”

Davis, though, seemed to have no intention of talking about the FBI probe. After arriving a half hour late for the press conference, he devoted the entire event to the Halloween night shooting of Neville Webb, the father of Mount Vernon City Council candidate Chris Webb.

According to Journal News reporter Jorge Fitz-Gibbon, who attended the press conference, the mayor grew indignant when questioned by reporters why he was not talking about the FBI probe.

“I did not call it for the probe,” Davis told reporters. “Just essentially, we were talking about things that we wanted to do and that has to take a back burner to the events of the day. I did call because I was, I am and still are concerned about our
voter rights. And that has not changed. But my spirit tells me that in the event of things that have happened, there are much more serious things on my mind than this election. More serious than probes. It’s the seriousness of where do we go as a people.”

Where do we go as a people? Get the murderers off the streets and pick up the garbage. That’s where we go.

It’s a damn shame that Mayor Davis used a press conference to advance his political agenda. Obviously he had no announcement or break in the federal probe other than more of his and ravi batra’s smoke and mirrors. I’m sorry that Ernie is going down…but we reap what we sow. This is a DAMN SHAME that while a man’s life hangs in the balance, Ernie is even politicizing that. We wish Mr. Webb the best and will pray for his father. But, I hope voters realize that Ernie is trying to play us all…and it’s a low down dirty shame.
