Taking impeachment to Lowey

November
30

A delegation from the Westchester Progressive Forum brought a resolution urging impeachment of Vice President Cheney and President Bush to U.S. Rep. Nita Lowey’s office in White Plains today.

They also brought her a copy of the book the Genius Of Impeachment by John Nichols to explain why they think the investigations are necessary.

“We summarized the administration’s actions in violation of the Constitution: Lying to justify the war against Iraq, warrantless surveillance, detention with due process of law, torture and rendition,” said forum member Gloria Karp. “But we spent most of the meeting laying out the case for immediate action despite the shortness of time remaining for the Bush incumbency.”

Karp summarized the arguments as follows:

Without initiation of an impeachment investigation, the Executive Branch will continue to expand its definition of its powers. All opposition is characterized as aiding terrorism. The war in Iraq will continue and bombing of Iran may ensue.

Most Americans are behind the investigations, according to the polls, and over 600 communities have adopted resolutions asking for impeachment. It is important to show strength, morality and principle to win the White House in 2008.

Pat Kegan, Lowey’s legislative assistant, gave the group a letter which is currently in the mail to all constituents who wrote about HR 333 introduced by U.S. Rep. Dennis Kucinich. In it, Lowey says there will be many Congressional hearings where the truth will emerge. Oversight and accountability are top priorities for her, but she believes that impeachment will further divide the country and distract from opportunities to reverse Bush policies.

We at Westchester Impeach support the actions of the Westchester Progressive Forum. My Congressman is John Hall, and we have presented the same information and requests to him. Rep. Kucinich’s resolution has been referred to the House Judiciary Committee and now bears the number H.RES.799. We ask Westchester residents this question: If Bush and Cheney start a war with Iran in 2008, and impeachment could have blocked that, how will you feel then about having done nothing now?

Sad to see the state of the Democratic Party. Imagine if Republicans tried to impeach the President during World War II. That would have been wrong then and it is wrong now. The President has to be able to protect this country. The Presidents facts were identical to those of every other politician since the 1990’s. If you impeach George Bush, you better impeach the majority of those in Congress and Bill Clinton. The fact of the matter is that history will look very kindly to George Bush, for his strength and his covictions. God bless our President.

It must be nice to reside in the corner of the political universe know as wacko-land. If these people had any integrity that would be criticizing Bill Clinton since he quoted from the same intelligence about Iraq that caused Bush to go after Iraq. What about all the Democrats that reviewed the same intelligence as Bush when voting in support of war in Iraq? There is zero evidence that Bush manufactured any evidence.

Congrats to Nita Lowey for putting the best interests of country before a partisan witch-hunt. The Republicans were irresponsible to impeach Clinton and any Democrats involved in this effort to impeach Bush are just as irresponsible. These wackos seeking impeachment want to substitute impeachment for elections. Clinton won the election and the Reps tried to overturn it through impeachment and now it is sad to see some Democrats trying to do the exact same thing. Folks, we need to put the country first. If you don’t like Bush and Reps, then go out and work on the campaign of one of the Dems running for president and help make them a winner. That is how it works in America!

It’s time to finally get a clue. George Bush has not protected this country – to do that, he would have had to READ the memo title “Bin Laden Determined to Attack Inside the United States”!

In fact, Bill Clinton did read such memos, which is why his administration foiled the Millenium attacks before they happened.

We were lied into this war, which, by the way, was launched on IRAQ, a country that has never posed a threat to US. It was launched not that long after George Bush ordered American troops in AFGHANISTAN to stand down, and let Osama bin Laden ESCAPE justice.

Paul, strength and convictions already look much more like pig-headed stupidity and outright criminality to the vast majority of historians, and the term is not even over.

Now, Bob, it is clear that the Congress didn’t get the same intelligence that George ignored. They got the sanitized, warped version that Dick Cheney allowed to get out of the CIA, after George Tenet rewrote it.

But please, I’m begging you, as a citizen, read the book and then decide if 1) illegal, warrantless wiretaps, 2) hundreds of signing statements where George Bush says he will disobey any law he doesn’t like, 3) ordering torture in violation of the Geneva Conventions, which the U.S. signed and just basic humanity requires us to obey, 4) copious evidence that Dick Cheney and George Bush DID fabricate and cherry-pick evidence to support a conclusion they knew was false about Iraq’s non-existent WMDs (remember George being told that the Niger yellowcake Uranium claims were false, and then telling you to your face in the STATE OF THE UNION SPEECH that they were true?).......aren’t these ALL impeachable offenses? Aren’t they a little more important than marital infidelity? Aren’t you waking up YET????

This man thinks he is King George. Only the American people can tell him otherwise, and if we don’t, there goes the Republic our Founding Fathers bequeathed to us.
