The IRS may owe you money
There are 8,722 taxpayers in New York owed refunds by the Internal Revenue Service, U.S. Rep. John Hall, D-Dover Plains, reported today.
That’s $10.5 million New York taxpayers could collect. The average New York State taxpayer with an unclaimed refund is owed over $1,200, according to the IRS.
Hall urged Hudson Valley residents to check with the IRS or with one of his New York offices to see if they think they are among the lucky who could collect by updating their address with the IRS.
A tax refund is usually withheld when the IRS or United States Postal Service does not have a taxpayer’s current address on file. Tax refunds are deemed undeliverable and held by the IRS until it receives an updated address.
Hudson Valley taxpayers can see if their name is on the list of taxpayers owed money and find out how to claim their money by:
· calling 1-800-829-1954 for a telephone version of “Where’s My Refund?”
· calling Hall’s office at (845) 225-3641 ext. 371 or (845) 291-4100 or visiting Hall’s website at www.johnhall.house.gov
