Lalor to protest Hall invite

December
14

Congressman John Hall, D-Dover Plains, shouldn’t be a guest of billionaire investor and political activist George Soros of Katonah, argues Kieran Lalor of Peekskill. Lalor, a Republican, wants to challenge Hall for the 19th C.D. seat in 2008.

Lalor keeps trying to put Hall in bed with MoveOn, but the fact is that MoveOn has only given Hall around $1400 since the end of 2006, according to the FEC. In the meantime, the National Republican Committee has paid out around $66000 since January 2007 to be used against Hall. All of that, I presume went to Andrew Saul. No money showing in the kitty so far for Lalor, since he just filed with the FEC last week. So far, everything Lalor’s “campaign” has put out has been on the cheap. A MySpace page and a blog (both free) aren’t exactly pushing the envelope, are they?

While I sorta admire Lalor for having the idealism to run, the fact is that the GOP just isn’t into pro-war, pro-torture, Reagan Republicans anymore, or at least they can’t afford to get behind them if they actually want to have a chance of winning. Bush’s popularity is at 32% again, and Lalor is just a cheerleader for stay the course.

If the Republicans want to take back the seat, it
will be a moderate pro choice republican who is
not a clone of the President…It will be a candidate
who can articulate solutions to the multitude of
problems we face from the economy to immigration
to energy, to taxes..and to Iraq…Republicans
need to think long and hard before selecting a candidate

  3. Walter Barrett

Nice to see that Mike and I can agree on something!

  4. Doc

Hmmm…..moderate…...pro-choice…....thinking long and hard….....fixing problems produced by Gilded-Age level tax cuts to the wealthy and massive inequality….....giving up all that Iraq war profiteering….......articulate….......

Even on the off-chance a local Republican might be left that fits this unlikely set of adjectives, he/she would not be in a party that has any interest in supporting any of them.

  5. M. Thomas

You dems and RINOs are a riot. Who cares what you think about the GOP candidate in this district? Neither of your ilk matters a whit.

  6. 7Curses

what a disparaging remark about dems and rinos

i will raise it to 2 whits, the second one for thomas & the like

there now we start off on even footing

seems thomas is feeling the squeeze from north and south as the area becomes more homogeneous and therefore more “democratic”

  7. Walter Barrett

Hey, M., we gotta talk about something!

If you don’t believe the GOP is THINKING about who to get behind in the 19th, you’d be wrong. If they thought that sucking up to the same folks that dominate the party strategy in places like Texas and Iowa and Ohio would get Lalor elected here, they’d be all over him. Just like Rahm Emanuel (a moron when it comes to DCCC strategy) was all behind Judy Aydelott (a DINO) in the last election in the 19th. The GOP hasn’t gotten behind Lalor, and they’re not likely to. (Even if he’s the only Republican that ends up running. Mark my words, if it’s him, the support from the RCCC will be lackluster at best.)

So enjoy the Kool-Aid with the other 32 percenters, I won’t care one iota, nor a whit, nor a speck…

    Consultant:

When was the last race you won?

Pirro- Lost to Spencer and lost to Cuomo.

You couldn’t even win with a decent man like Judge Sherwood, an incumbent for 15 years.

As for Lalor’s ability to, “articulate solutions to the multitude of problems we face from the economy to immigration to energy, to taxes” he is tackling every problem we face. That the folks at Lohud don’t cover that is a disservice to their readers. Have you been to his website? The guy is all about issues. I defy you to find a candidate at any level who offers detailed positions such as Lalor does.

Some facts for those who worry about a conservative in the 19th CD: Bush carried it by 51% in 2000 and 54% in 2004. Talk of the 19th radically changing its political leanings in nonsense. Sue Kelly a moderate lost but every state Senator in the district is a Republican/Conservative. They all won in 2006. Ball was more conservative than Willis and he won. Further north, conservative Freshman Assemblyman Marcus Molinaro replaced moderate Republican Pat Manning and won the general.

Face it Edleman, you can’t stand Pro-Lifers or practicing Christians and that is what drives your venom against conservatives. Your idea to win the 19th is to run another Sue Kelly. The Republican establishment tried that with Saul. Where is he these days. Sue Kelly outspent Hall by $1 million dollars and lost despite all the advantages of incumbency and her moderation and pro-choice stances. She ran away from reporters and that became the defining image of the campaign. Lalor is following Hall to NYC and exposing his ties to the hard Left. This is what Kelly should have done.

Here is Lalor’s thoughtful platform: http://kml2008.com/issues.htm Lalor has powerful solutions that no one else has articulated particularly with regards to Divesting terrorist states and veterans.

    ISSUES, IDEAS & SOLUTIONS
    Strong National Defense
As a Marine Corps infantryman who conducted operations in five countries on three continents, I have seen the necessity of a muscular defense. However, American military power should only be deployed when a vital U.S. interest is at stake.
Confronting terrorists on their turf is essential to thwarting attacks on ours. Thus, a vital national security interest is at stake in Iraq and we must be victorious.
    Victory is achieved when:
    1. Iraq is not a safe haven from which terrorists can plot attacks against America, our interests or our allies.
    2. The Iraqi security forces can protect their citizens from terrorist thugs and Islamic radicals no longer threaten Iraq’s democracy.
    Divest Terror
We can help win the War On Terror by using our nation’s considerable financial clout. If pension plans and other investment vehicles divested from those regimes designated by the State Department as state sponsors of terrorism, we could break the backs of pro-terror regimes without firing a shot.
    Border Security
Fighting them over there while letting them in over here is a deeply flawed policy. Illegal immigration degrades our national security, public safety, schools and hospitals.
The illegal immigration problem can efficiently be addressed by attrition. We can encourage illegals to return to their county with my simple but powerful 4 step approach:
1.Deport illegals whenever they are convicted of crimes or discovered by routine law enforcement activity.
2.Prosecute those who hire and enable illegals.
3.End welfare, in-state tuition, and other benefits to illegals.
    4.Secure the border.

Honoring And Fulfilling Our Promise To Veterans

Innovative Solutions To Help Veterans: The Department of Veterans Affairs is well meaning, but like all bureaucracies it is ineffective. I am working on five initiatives that would immediately help veterans without further burdening the VA:
1.There are more than 400,000 veterans waiting in line for medical care because of an enormous backlog at the VA. To fix this, every eligible veteran should be able to use his identification and discharge papers (Form DD-214) and go to any hospital or doctor for treatment and the federal government will reimburse the facility at the same rate as they reimburse for Medicare. Providers that don’t want to participate can take the public relations hit and risk losing their federal funding.
2.Because military service involves a comprehensive education, attaining the rank of Non-Commissioned Officer should entitle veterans to 60 readily transferable credits equivalent to an associates degree. This would allow them to save thousands of dollars on two years of tuition and dramatically decrease the time it takes to earn a bachelor’s degree.
3.I am assembling a pro bono panel of lawyers to fight for veterans who are discriminated against in employment.
4.We must require state schools to freeze tuition rates for activated reservists and encourage private institutions to do likewise.
5.I propose a $5,000 tax deduction for employers who hire a veteran within a year of leaving the military.
Montrose and Castle Point VA Medical Centers: Simultaneously sending American servicemen to war while closing VA hospitals is unconscionable. Montrose and Castle Point are vital to the Veterans of the Hudson Valley. Both facilities must be maintained and upgraded with the goal of providing state-of-the-art medical treatment for area veterans.
Mandatory Funding For VA Healthcare: Recently I signed a pledge to support mandatory funding for veteran’s healthcare services as part of Operation Firing For Effect a non-profit, non-partisan, grassroots veteran’s service organization. The current discretionary funding mechanisms for veteran’s healthcare is beset by numerous flaws preventing many veterans from receiving the quality care they earned and deserve. Mandatory funding would make sure that the bureaucracy and political wrangling over budgets does not keep veterans from getting the healthcare they earned. That Congress failed to pass mandatory funding last year is a national disgrace.
    Limited Government
I am committed to limited government and individual liberty and ever wary of the stifling effect of meddling government and high taxes. Forcing Americans to pay upwards of forty cents of every dollar they earn to a bloated government is an economic and moral travesty.

I will fight for across the board cuts in federal spending and demand that bureaucracies justify their budgets every year.

    Healthcare
The key to improving the healthcare of Americans is to encourage more choices of health insurance providers by re-working the tax code to allow Americans more control in their health care decisions.
Meanwhile, I am compiling a database of employers who offer health insurance so that those who are uninsured or underinsured can explore more opportunities to immediately improve their coverage.
Nationalized healthcare may sound like the answer, but government control would inevitably lead to waste, rationing, excruciatingly long waiting periods and a crisis far worse than what we face today.
Last, anyone who claims to want to improve American healthcare while refusing to deal with illegal immigration cannot be trusted.
Support For American Workers & Industry
We must remember that a strong industrial base is not only an economic necessity but a national security imperative. In WWII we armed and equipped a 16 million man army in a matter of months. Today, it takes years to up-armor a few Humvees.
I am a member of organized labor and I will fight against the outsourcing of jobs and work to stem the flood of cheap imports that enrich and embolden oppressive and hostile regimes like China while undermining our ability to provide for the common defense.
    China
Our reckless dependence on Chinese-made goods funds a hostile nation in a manner eerily similar to the way our Middle Eastern oil dependence subsidizes terrorist supporting mullahs. The insatiable appetite for goods made in China has allowed the repressive Chinese government to gobble up stalwart American companies like IBM’s PC division. The greenbacks we send to Beijing for DVD players, toys, baseballs, shoes, clothes and countless seemingly patriotic items are being used to buy American treasury bills ensuring China a steady stream of interest payments on our debt. Worse, the Chinese have used our consumer dollars to buy weapons systems that may one day be used in a showdown with the U.S. As we help fund China’s military, we degrade our ability to field effective weapons systems because our manufacturing base is being gutted by the trade imbalance.
Some say confrontation with China is unlikely but history is littered with pundits who said it could never happen. On September 10, 2001 I may have laughed if told that 19 fanatics with box cutters could knock down the Twin Towers, blow a hole in the Pentagon and kill three thousand Americans in a single morning. Imagine what China could do with its 2.8 million man army – the world’s largest – backed by 8,500 tanks, 4,000 fighter planes and a nuclear arsenal.
For purchasing massive amounts of its goods, China has rewarded the U.S. by illegally devaluing its currency. This devaluation undercuts American production in markets around the world and has cost us approximately 1.8 million jobs nationwide.
In short, I will fight for trade policies that improve U.S. national security and not that of our enemies. Moreover, I support the Hunter-Ryan Bill, (HR 2942) which would provide sanctions against China for illegal currency manipulations.
    Reform
I have zero tolerance for corruption regardless of the perpetrator’s party affiliation. I am 100% opposed to pork and pledge never to bring unnecessary appropriations back to the district. I’ll fight to prevent other legislators from wasting tax dollars on pet projects that serve only to enrich special interests and entrench incumbents. Finally, I will shun lobbyist because they wield undue and unconstitutional influence over our government.
    Traditional Values
A free people do not wait around for a bare majority of nine unelected, life-tenured lawyers on the Supreme Court to tell them what they can and cannot do. No longer can we allow liberal activists to abuse the courts to circumvent the will of the American people. Preserving the institutions that have been the bedrock of our society is essential to the continued prosperity of the nation.
My daughter spent much of her early life in hospitals having surgery to correct a severe congenital heart defect. I have seen parents fighting desperately to keep their children alive in ICUs and I understand that human life at all stages is sacred and must be protected. I am Pro-Life and support a Constitutional Amendment that would protect the legal right of unborn children.

    The Right To Bear Arms

I have spent my entire adult life studying, teaching or defending the U.S. Constitution. I understand that all 10 of the Bill Of Rights, including the 2nd Amendment, must be respected. Moreover, I know that gun-control laws disarm law abiding citizens leaving us defenseless against criminals who are undeterred by legislation.

  9. From Westchester

    It keeps coming up Oros.

George Oros has a consistent record of solid conservative accomplishment. He served as chairman of the Westchester county board with a bi-partisan coalition. He has been a steadfast and effective advocate for a right size county government, low taxes, and civil civic discourse.

  10. ReaganRepublican

George Soros has a better chance of winning the Republican nomination in NY 19 than does George Oros.

Oros is utterly uninspiring and has all the charisma of a loud belch.

On a serious note, Republicans lost in 2006 for a number of reasons, among them the perception that they were self-dealing. Oros just campaigned for a year making promises to improve things at the county level. Now he wants to abandoned those things a few weeks later and seek a higher office. While that is par for the course in politics, voters hate that and it is part of the reason formerly Republican strongholds are falling to Democrats.

The Westchester GOP is in shambles. Oros is part of the GOP establishment and as minority leader is the first mate of its sinking ship. Why should someone from a failing organization unknown outside Peekskill and Cortlandt be able to beat a well funded incumbent?

Finally, would Oros have won reelection last month without the 2AM robo-dial by his opponent? Many say that erroneous call by Volpe made the difference.

Oros eeked out a victory as an incumbent. He cannot be a well funded incumbent.

Finally, it has been weeks since Oros started rumbling about running. Make up your mind. In or out Oros? Either you think you can beat Hall or you don’t think you can. Your lack of decisiveness is another reason your candidacy is doomed.

  11. joe in putnam

you people over complicate things. Hall won because he was able to dupe voters into thinking Sue Kelly had something to do with Mark Foley’s page scandal.

  12. Al Mazetti

    Right on the money, Joe!

Lalor doesn’t have to put Hall in bed with Soros. Hall does that just fine for himself, as tonight’s fundraiser indisputably proves. The libtards miss the link to Soros because Hall is afraid to mention it in his press releases or his website.
