Mulrow mum on role with Spitzer

Posted by: Glenn Blain - Posted in 2008, Eliot Spitzer, William Mulrow on Dec 19, 2007

Bronxville’s Bill Mulrow, the well-respected Democratic operative and former candidate for state comptroller, declined to comment about a report in today’s “The New York Sun”:http://www.nysun.com/article/68295 that he is about to take over Gov. Eliot Spitzer’s political operation.

“I’m not talking,” Mulrow said almost apologetically during a brief telephone interview.

According to the story, Mulrow will work as unpaid senior political adviser to the governor starting next year.

What’s the title… Senior Political Fixer? Senior Political Patronage Provider in Return for Voting the Way We Dictate Director? Senior Political Sub-Rosa Dealmaker? Senior Political…What is this job? It’s not to say Spitzer is the only one. The Republicans are very well versed in this as well. Let no one vote his conscience! Vote our way because you are threatened or because we have some nice patronage for you, or both. Don’t worry – the taxpayers will fund all of this as they always have. You will stay in office and if you break the law, we’ll work with you and back you. If, god-forbid, we have to desert you because you have been uber-reckless, we’ll see to it that you get your pension and perhaps another nice, quiet, profitable position after everything has quieted down. We have to do it this way because the public is too stupid to understand how it has to work.
