Iraq veterans for Congress

January
2

The 2006 election saw a slew of anti-Iraq war candidates including veterans run for office. Now Kieran Lalor of Peekskill, the sole Republican challenger at the moment for the Congressional seat held by John Hall, D-Dover Plains, has announced the launch of Iraq Veterans for Congress, a group of Republican vets who plan to run for Congress in 2008 on a pro-war platform.

Lalor, who served in Iraq, said today he formed Iraq Veterans for Congress “to help bring national attention to an outstanding group of pro-victory Republicans who share a common set of values.”

The goal is to run as “a unified group, with a unified commitment to our country and to the voters,” he said.

“Bringing this group together sends a powerful message to voters across America that as veterans, we are united in our effort to win back Congress, and we will not stand by as Democrats subvert America’s security and the mission in Iraq.” Lalor said. “We owe it to ourselves and to those who have served in Iraq to pursue victory in Congress, just as we did in uniform.”

If Mr. Lalor wraps himself any tighter with the flag he is sure to suffocate.

Has he heard of Joe Sestak?

Here’s a few thoughts for you- 11 veterans of Iraq/Afghanistan ran for office in 2006. Only one of them was a Republican. His name was Van Taylor, and he ran in the 17th CD in TEXAS. That’s Mr. Bush’s district, BTW. Bush gave him a glowing endorsement, and urged his neighbors to vote for Taylor.

    He lost by 18 points.

Further proof that Kooky Kieran Lalor is clueless about how voters feel about the war in Iraq. This also further proves my theory that Lalor is only in this race to gain some sort of national standing as a right wing extremist and parlay his candidacy into not only a shellacking at the polls, but also possibly a hate radio show on a wingnut station like WABC radio.

2006 was an awful year for Republicans partly because they ran lots of moderates against Democrats who were also moderates. of course, the leadership ended up in the hands of looney tunes dems like Pelosi. but the ones who got her there ran by sounding a lot like republicans.

anyway, i hope dems continue to look at 2006 as the barometer for 2008. it is thinking like tha on sue kelly’s part that let john hall fonda in the door in the first place. especially if Hill’s on the ballot, it’ll look a lot more like 2004!

and what makes Lalor “kooky”? boot camp? If you want kooky, take a look at Hall and his roster of donors. as kieran said recently, it resembles a passenger list for a woodstock-bound VW splitty. lol

Haven’t had a chance to see Lalor contributions yet, as they don’t have to be filed until mid-January, but I’d expect HIS list to be way shorter than Mr. Hall’s.

My prediction- He won’t have any more than $40-50 thousand on hand, absolute, optimistic tops.

    Pass the spliff, man!

Mr Lalor is to be applauded for his service to our country and to tthe cause of freedom. His continued committtment to public service is also to be commended and encouraged. And his pro-victory outlook is Churchillian.

But it is useful to remember that (for example) Winston Churchill (a war hero in the Boer War) was Home Secretary before he went to the Admiralty, and Churchill was a back bencher in the House of Commons before Home Secretary. Churchill had a mastery of the issues fiscal and financial, at home and abroad, at a time when the key issues before World War I included labor equity, the future of the House of Lords, and women’s suffrage.

Congress today needs a steadfast committment to victory (such as Mr. Lalor’s) in the war against the Islamo-fascists and their allies, but Congress also needs men and women who can face the broad range of issues in a dangerous world. And that is where Mr. Lalor needs more experience.

George Oros would also bring a voice for victory to counter the defeatism of Congressman Hall and such. But Oros brings a depth of experience in public affairs that I have every confidence Mr. Lalor can gain in time: but does the nation have the time.

George Oros has served as a Council Member on the Cortlandt Town Board, Minority Leader on the Westchester County Board ofLegislators, and Mr. Oros was Chair of the county board as well. George Oros has a record of working in a non-partisan and bi-partisan way to achieve sound public policy. When Oros was Chairman it was because a bi-partisan coalition elected him.

In many respects policy is about spending and not spending other people’s money. George Oros is a consistent budget hawk who has proposed reasonable low tax alternatives to the high tax Democrats in White Plains. The upcoming Congress in 2009 is likely to be closely divided. Congressman Oros would be a force against the Clinton Rock and Drug Woodstock Museum and the Alaskan Bridge to Nowhere. Congressman Oros would be a force for fiscal integrity with the smarts to stop some of the excesses supported by Congressman Hall. Mr. Lalor, for all his virues, wants the experience that is embodied by Congressman Oros.

hooray now we have republicans for war right here in the 19th CD just like all the nukers trying for the republican nod for president !

Where does the group claim that it “plan[s] to run for Congress in 2008 on a pro-war platform”? Nowhere, you twit reporter. From what I read, they are pro-America, pro-strong national defense, pro-troops, and pro-rooting out Islamofascists.

    Semper Fi, Mr. Lalor!

Here’s the group’s stated mission, which was apparently too tough for reporter Elan to link to:

    http://www.iraqvetsforcongress.com/

    Nothing about “pro-war” in there.

Oh, and Mr. Oros, please stop floating your trial balloons here. Nobody is looking for you to ride to the rescue and enter the race.

The only thing Lalor has in common with Churchill is the haircut, don’t know about the cigars.

Our veterans have a dedicated and effective representative in Congress. John Hall has put veterans’ issues up front and center and worked hard on their behalf. He exposed the issue of the ridiculous bonuses being paid to political appointees in the disability office while the soldier’s claims languish. His office has been effective in representing individual veterans on their disability issues. John’s wife’s family is West Point and it is quite clear that he responds to the these issues in a personal way as well as a political one. His commitment to veterans is unquestionable and to suggest otherwise is dribble.

  13. Dan Thomas

Yeah, Hall proved what a great supporter he is of the troops when he voted against giving them mine-resistant vehicles, and when he cozies up to David Crosby after he slanders the troops as murderers of innocent women and children.

George Oros resembles a barn owl long held in captivity at a zoo, a creature you’d not want to return to the wild at this point. He definitely needs more protein in his food bowl! Also, the kind of scrutiny he’d get as a congressional candidate would really swivel his head. Better to keep him locked up.
