John Hall has put veterans' issues up front and center and worked hard on their behalf. He exposed the issue of the ridiculous bonuses being paid to political appointees in the disability office while the soldier's claims languish. His office has been effective in representing individual veterans on their disability issues. John's wife's family is West Point and it is quite clear that he responds to the these issues in a personal way as well as a political one. His commitment to veterans is unquestionable and to suggest otherwise is dribble. Our veterans have a dedicated and effective representative in Congress. But it is useful to remember that (for example) Winston Churchill (a war hero in the Boer War) was Home Secretary before he went to the Admiralty, and Churchill was a back bencher in the House of Commons before Home Secretary. Churchill had a mastery of the issues fiscal and financial, at home and abroad, at a time when the key issues before World War I included labor equity, the future of the House of Lords, and women's suffrage. Congress today needs a steadfast committment to victory (such as Mr. Lalor's) in the war against the Islamo-fascists and their allies, but Congress also needs men and women who can face the broad range of issues in a dangerous world. And that is where Mr. Lalor needs more experience. George Oros would also bring a voice for victory to counter the defeatism of Congressman Hall and such. But Oros brings a depth of experience in public affairs that I have every confidence Mr. Lalor can gain in time: but does the nation have the time.
