McCain’s Yonkers guy

January
7

Among the hundreds of volunteers in New Hampshire working for candidates this week was a key member of Yonkers Mayor Phil Amicone’s staff – his Executive Assistant John Fleming.

Fleming, a former New York City police detective and one-time candidate for state Senate, is working for Sen. John McCain’s campaign and has been in New Hampshire since Friday. He also spent five days in the state the week before.

“I believe very strongly in McCain, Fleming said in a telephone interview as he traveled with the campaign in New Hampshire. “Always have. To me he is like an icon.

Mostly, Felming said he has working telephone banks in McCain’s Manchester headquarters. He admitted its a sacrifice, forcing him to spend his weekends away from home and use vacation time from work.

“It is a sacrifice I don’t mind making,â€? Fleming said. “It is a very important race and it is a very important time…It is a service for me, it is not a job.â€?

Interestingly, Fleming, when he worked on the NYPD, served on Rudy iuliani’s security detail.

“Rudy Giuliani is a friend and a great man, Fleming said. “If he ran for mayor, I would vote for him again, but not for president. I am a conservative Republican.
