Just a quick geography lesson here, the 35th State Senate district with it's freshman legislator is in Westchester County - home of Hillary Clinton, there are no scenarios that provide an edge for winning from the Presidential ticket.

Let's say Hillary isn't on the ticket - unlikely, but I am the Speculator - do you think Hillary doesn't help the Democratic ticket in Westchester.

It will be 2004 all over again with an incumbent Senator Stewart-Cousins beating ol' Nick Spano again. The Consultant did predict that Nick Spano would win in the off year election - oops, that did not happen.

Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins won because people were tired of the being played with false or orchestrated results. The Consultant knows the facts, that incumbents win 90-95% of the time - especially new incumbents. Telling people that Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins isn't Nick Spano is fine - the people already know that.

"Nuke, nuke, nuke Iran" McCain and all the rest are just out of touch. Any one of them is a danger to what is left of our democracy and world stability. Oh yeah and they can take their leader's stimulus package and stick it !

Correction......

GW Bush and the person who has given him the most influence in his Life was made at the "Republican Primary Debates"

There were five or six candidates sitting on stage at the time including McCain. Hence that comment was the one who help Bush obtain votes in the primary of the Bible Belt.

You have to forgive me, drinking coffee and running off to the store with a five year old on my lap makes me type some of these thoughts a little off track.

RE: Evangelicals controlling the "National Party"

Yes... Remember President Bush on National TV debates Vs Gore saying that the person who has been most influential in his lie? His answer was Jesus Christ.....

Result.....That was sentence that brought GW Bush 5 States, count them 5 States...Trust was established to the Evangelicals...

BTW.....this is the way to win an election. Even Bill Clinton, Al Gore & President GW Bush ALL agree on one fact.

The other six (6) States that Gore lost to Bush were NRA States.

There is more to America then New York City and its ultra liberal ways.

In fact there is a world of difference of Upstate & Downstate New York on 2A issues. Almost every house in upstate New York has firearms and guess what....No crime, burglaries or shootings.

We may see a Romney-Thompson ticket, and

RE: Above comment of Conservative’s choice of Faso and Spencer-what a disaster-lets not the same mistake again.

I explained once before what had happened.

Internal quivers for control of the GOP was coming from Rochester, Onondaga and Nassau. It was a "Blow Out" year for the tiicket no matter who was running.

Loooong story short.....

Upstate GOPers' wanted Faso & Spencer as candidates and fought the "Establishment of Power" who wanted Weld & Pirro. The fight lasted till the day of the convention for Weld & Faso, a month for Spencer & Pirro.

Weld would have given more control to Manhattan GOPers...KT power to Erie and also Manhattan as well. Party was split.

Further, NO MONEY from Wall Streeters & Washington.
Wall Street knew Spitz would win, Washington wanted Clinton as they would raise more $$$ from PACS & for the GOP Party with Clinton on ticket as a "lighting rod"

If fact, Pirro (& Kiran Mahoney!) found this out and left the race knowing NO help was on the way from National GOP or PACS.

Finally, Almost all GOP Chairs have said in one form or another, many, many have left their County Parties (Base supporters). Which in turn was a lost of petition people, $$$$, grass roots..etc.

RE: The GOP have failed County Chairs via taxes, 2A, gay rights, Pro-life. (Again think upstate on social issues) From the day Pataki started to clone himself as a Liberal the votes started to suppress for the GOP the hundreds of thousand left year in and year out in the Pataki years. Thus reflection of the NYS Senate.

Consultant, I could not agree with you more-and to Jim Kelly I realize this little state senate seat is of little importance to you-but it is to those of use who live in the 35th Senate district-one of the reason we have no representation in Albany, is because the State Conservative's choice of Faso and Spencer-what a disaster-lets not the same mistake again-BTW I am a fan of Senator Spano and I am a conservative

the Republican party will pick a conservative no question
about it..the issue is will that conservative be a traditional republican conservative or will there be an
evangelical/populist tinge to the candidacy, which will
eliminate that candidate from election and will result in
the democrats in congress significantly increasing their
majorities..Nick's point was that among the candidates
the conservativm of John McCaIN would play "well enough"
in New York to allow him a shot at recapturing the seat
while the brand of conservatism practices by Huckabee
would eliminate that possibility...By the way if Barry
Goldwater could see what was happening to the Republican
Party in terms of evangelicals controlling such a large
portion of the base, he would be sick ..and he was
Mr. Conservative

Personally, (IMO) The main concern is not a little State Senate Seat in Westchester.

I understand all politics is local. Trust me, I hear it from all around the State from the Chairs. Everyone's back yard in their part of the State is the most important to protect.

That being said, I agree with your theory a moderate could have helped Spano. (I am no fan of his BTW)

It is the Presidential Race. A Conservative on top of the ticket is the ONLY way of obtaining some seats back in the House & Senate from base States. A Conservative is the only way to energize the base in the Red States. The Supreme Court is most paramount in the eyes of the base.

So... the guy who spent nearly 30 years in Albany, looking-on while the legislature devolved into the most dysfunctional in the nation, is running as the candidate of change? I think the voters of the 35th understand that even though he has not been in office for almost 2 years, Nick Spano is still more entrenched in business-as-usual Albany than Senator Stewart-Cousins. The GOP might do well to find some fresh blood rather than keep propping up the same, stale candidates. Maybe that is why they are in the shape they are in now.

the issue for the Senate race is turnout...Nick lost
because Democrats enamored with SPitzer turned out in record
numbers...they voted party line across the board thowing
out Nick Spano and installing Andrea Stewart Cousins..In
addition to no viable Republican running for Governor
the party also had John Spencer challenging Hillary Clinton
so again there was a vacum at the top of the ticket which
provided no reason for REpublicans to vote...This year
the dynamic is changed..Spitzer is not the conquering hero
he was in 2006..In fact no Governor has fallen farther
and faster in the history of the state..His poll numbers
are horrible with an approval in the low 30's...
So the original gambit that ANdrea used with the split
screen ad and the slogan "everything changes on day one"
no longer has any cachet..in fact if you re ran those same
commercials for Andrea she probably would lose just based
on her connection to the governor...SO all Nick needs to make a successful comeback is a Presidential candidate at
the top of the ticket who is not a complete disaster
in terms of New York voters both Republican and Independent
but Huckabee would be a disaster just as John Spencer and
John Faso were
