More Schumer stops (this one with Lowey)
More than 100 people are expected to attend a reception at The Burke Rehabilitation Hospital, in conjunction with Helen
Hayes Hospital, honoring Senator Charles E. Schumer and Congresswoman Nita M. Lowey Tuesday tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. in Burke’s patient dining room, 785 Mamaroneck Avenue, in White Plains.
“The reception honors the senator and representative for their leadership efforts on behalf of patients needing medical
rehabilitation,” according to an announcement from the facilities. Specifically, organizers cited the lawmakers’ efforts to pass the Medicare, Medicaid and SCHIP Extension Act of 2007 “that institutes a permanent freeze of 60% as the percentage of patients who must be treated for one of 13 specific conditions by rehabilitation hospitals.
“Their efforts targeted Medicare’s “75% Ruleâ€? that requires 75% of patients in a rehabilitation unit or hospital to have one of a fixed list of diagnoses. Burke Rehabilitation Hospital has maintained that requiring rehabilitation facilities to admit patients based upon a diagnoses quota, rather than individual needs, is wrong,” the announcement continues.
