Standing room only
About 80 residents crowded among the stacks of the Mahopac Library today to hear U.S. Rep. John Hall, D-Plains. Many had come to ask for help with veterans issues, expediting passports, or seeking funding for nonprofit organizations.
Hall talked for half an hour about the environment with a cursory nod to the recession.
“We can’t keep running up the debt,” Hall said as his constituents solemnly nodded their agreement. “We’ve got the largest national debt and personal debt in our nation’s history.”
The audience, made up of senior citizens, veterans, families with children in tow, and a smattering of local politicians, clapped when Hall said he had obtained more than $300,000 in benefits for 15 veterans.
But the biggest round of applause went to Kent resident Jeff Green who asked Hall why he hadn’t done more to support a resolution calling for the impeachment of President Bush and Vice President Cheney.
“I’m not on the Judiciary Committee,” Hall said.
Green pressed on. “Why did you vote to table the resolution?” Green asked.
“I voted to refer it to committee,” Hall said. “There are more hearings going on under this Congress…”
Hall reminded his audience that he had made it onto former Bush adviser Karl Rove’s top 20 list of Congress members to replace in 2008.
Robert Lynch of Mahopac, a Korean war veteran, said Hall probably can’t do much to get impeachment hearings on Bush and Cheney going but House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid can and should.
“Taking impeachment off the table is nonsense,” Lynch said as he left the library. “Bush has gone crazy. He’s the worst president we have ever had.”

So it was a meeting for moonbats. Not surprising. Those of who have to work for a living can’t turn out for a town hall meeting in the middle of a weekday. We live in the real world, unlike the kooks Hall was holding court for who suffer from Bush Derangement Syndrome. And how ironic that a tax-and-spend Pelosi toady would talk about running up debt. If Hall and his masters had their way, we’d be even deeper in debt funding the welfare state.
The two presidents who have presided over the two largest increases in the federal debt that resulted in the two greatest hits to our economy in our lifetimes are…....care to guess?
Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush.
So, let’s finally dump this “tax and spend liberal” crap, unless you would rather not have a vibrant economy with a budget surplus, health care, social security, financial and corporate interests that obey the law, and you would rather mail your money directly to the wealthiest 1 percent of the population.
Supply-side voodoo economics doesn’t add to our supply!
Why is that the left-wing loonies follow Hall around? Is it because Hall is in bed with so many other left wingers (George Soros, Pete Seeger, Bonnie Raitt, Tim Robbins, etc. ad nauseum)? There sure as heck isn’t any significant percentage of people in and around Mahopac whose #1 issue is impeaching a Republican president in his last days in office saddled with a Democratic Congress. Bush Derangement Syndrome indeed!!!
yeah, we shouldn’t sweat these little things, like being lied into war, bugged illegally, losing our right to a trial by jury, and what’s a little torture amongst friends, right?
or, try on the sage advice of that loonie Ben Franklin:
“Those who sacrifice liberty for security deserve neither”
considering that congressman hall is an outstanding congressman who is doing what a congressperson should be doing and considering that 80 folks did happen to show up in the middle of the day shows that he has earned the respect of his constituents.
bush derangement syndrome ? somebody should have slapped his butt in jail when he was awol.
I thought Hall was the draft dodger
bush knows how to fly a military jet. do you?
and what exactly would you call dick cheney?
Ever notice that the first refuge of someone with blind loyalty, but no argument based on facts, is to call the other guy names?
Good one, consultant! Dick did have “other priorities” back then, and they didn’t involve getting shot at. (Now, though, he’s the one doing the shooting…)
