When President Bush gives his State of the Union Address tonight, one of those watching live in the House of Representatives’ chambers will be New Rochelle Fire Commissioner Raymond “Doc” Kiernan.
Kiernan was invited to attend the event by U.S. Rep. Nita Lowey, D-Harrison, who is looking for a show of support for homeland preparedness and first responders like local fire departments. Lowey anticipates that Bush will announce cuts in funding for grants earmarked for homeland security preparedness grant and first responders.
â€Å“She definitely wanted to get somebody down here who’s from the first responder community,â€? said Lowey spokesman Matthew Dennis.
Kiernan joined New Rochelle’s bravest some 40 years ago and has been commissioner since 1985.
