A challenger for the Westchester DA
It appears that Westchester District Attorney Janet DiFiore has at least one potential challenger interested in running against her in 2009  her first re-election effort and her first campaign as a Democrat.
Dan Schorr, a former assistant district attorney who served when Jeanine Pirro ran the office, is holding a Feb. 27 fundraiser at Zanzibar in Manhattan. According to the invite  a copy of which was circulated via e-mail by the Westchester GOP  the event is in support of “Dan Schorr for Westchester County District Attorney.” Tickets start at $99.
Schorr, who left the district attorney’s office before DiFiore was elected in 2005, has yet to formally announce a candidacy for the office. He is perhaps best known as the attorney who prosecuted Sheila Davalloo, a Pleasantville woman was convicted in 2004 of attempted murder for nearly killing her husband during a kinky sex game.
Republican leaders, stung by DiFiore’s decision last summer to change her registration and become a Democrat, have vowed to vigorously contest her re-election campaign.

Challenger Dan Schor has the perfect background to serve Westchester with honor. It would be great to see him given the opportunity to lead!!
Why were those NYPD cops only charged with
misdemeanor assault in that fracas at the
Yonkers bar. The guy they beat has lost
sight in one eye, and had other injuries.
Why is this not felony assault?
What’s worth noting here is that Schorr has an exemplary record as a prosecutor both in Queens and in Westchester, unlike DeFiore, who has no prosecutorial experience at all. He is obviously the more qualified candidate.
DiFiore is a lousy DA. But will a majority of Westchester voters bother to note this? Given their recent choices for other elected offices, my Magic 8 Ball says, “Doubtful.”
HAD HEARD ABOUT DAN SCHORRS VICTORIES ALL THE WAY IN CALIFORNIA..SEEMS TO HAVE A GREAT REPUTATION..
This race will be an easy race and win for DA DiFiore. She is a compassionate person who does her job in a professional manner and treats all people with respect. It is so easy to be a Monday morning quarterback.
as an observer of district attorney’s races since
1973 and having run the races as consultant about
5 times, I can tell you that the incumbant DA from
whatever party has the advantage every single time.
Even Jeanine Pirro whose husband was convicted of
tax fraud and went to jail won while the registration
was against her..Mrs Di Fiore conducts herself in
a fair and impartial manner and notwithstanding the
fact that I am sure Mr Schor was a fine assistant
prosecutor remember what Frank Hogan said.”THere is no
REpublican or Democratic way to fight crime”
Mrs Di Fiore should win this race easily. In fact
Republicans might be smart to consider a cross endorsement
if they have any expectation of winning the other offices
that will be up that year
Janet DiFiore is a superior public prosecutor, an exemplary District Attorney. If you ask police officials and personnel who have known her for years, you will find they admire and respect Janet—as both a prosecutor, and as a judge.
I helped in Janet DiFiore’s campaign in 2005, and worked also for her in 2002, when she was elected to State Supreme Court. I admire Janet DiFiore greatly.
Now: the political dynamic in Westchester, and Rockland, too, has changed so greatly that one could be the greatest prosecutor in the history of the free world—above reproach, sterling in the administration of the law, accurate in its prosecution—and still be at the whim of some truly ignorant voters. Case in point: the angry, alienated, immature, psychotic members of the modern Democrat Party who sheepishly threw an outstanding man out of the Rockland DA’s office last year, owing to a deal made by our corrupt governor, “Private School” Eliot Spitzer, at the last minute.
Surely, Ms. DiFiore must have taken this zeitgeist factor into account when she switched parties last year, knowing that the ugly, control-oriented, psychotic Democrats who have moved to Westchester from their historically corrupted Brooklyn and Riverdale schesis might seek her head in the next election, had she remained a Republican.
It will be interesting to see what Mr. Schorr has to offer.
Maybe the GOP can find a former Democrat to run, if only just for the irony of it.
DiFiore seems to be at least as competent as Pirro was, with the exception of not sticking herself in front of any available camera at the drop of a hat.
DiFiore will beat this guy, period.
By the way, when Republicans were winning every single office ever in Westchester, when they held a political patronage machine that included Keeler at Playland, and Ed Brady running the County Board, were the voters Republican sheep then?
Obviously, when Republicans win, they have an informed voter. But Democrats voters are sheep? What baloney.
I remember Republican leaders in White Plains blasting Democratic Governors every chance the got. Once a Republican Governor came in – silence.
You’re watching the normal partisanship of two parties – nothing more or less. It’s distasteful to me when Dems do it, but the Reps do it, too.

Why in the past three years since she has been in office that she is failing to retain experienced, bright prosecutors and staff members that have spent years of thier lives working within the office? Could it be that moral is at an all time LOW. Westchester County residents wake up and start looking for the truth.

I don’t know why more people aren’t upset about the DiFiore switch. Someone who owes her entire career to the Republican Party simply abandons it for no other reason than her concern over voter demographics and party registration turning Democrat in Westchester. Maybe there is no “Republican or Democratic way to fight crime”, but I think the DA should have conviction. I can’t wait to see what Mr. Schorr does.
Janet Difiore in my opinion is by far the most corrupt DA ever elected in Westchester County. This woman is a liar, has no respect for the Constitutional rights of others, a total failure! She has allowed the corruption to flourish in this county. The theft that goes on from Yonkers to the County Governments is staggering. How can we trust a woman who for one cheats on her husband and arranges for a high paying tax funded no show job for her boy friend Peter Viviano. If you are not part of the solution you are part of the problem.

the DA is corrupt…It very often has to do with a bad
experience that the person had but there are just some
people who have a thing against law enforcement officials
be they police or prosecutors…I get really tired of
hearing about “corruption” in the DA’s office…I heard
about it when Carl Vergari was DA..not true…I heard
about it when Jeanine Pirro was DA..not true…and now
we are hearing about it while Difiore is DA…also not
true…Westchester has a history of having competent
professional DA’s and that simply is not going to change
Residents of the county recognize that their Chief Law
Enforcement Officers over the years have acted in their
best interests to protect them against crime and to
help them if they are victims of a criminal act..
allegation of generalized corruption are made usually
out of anger, frustration or jealousy not out of facts
and knowledge ….and that has always been the case
WESTCHESTER HAS A HISTORY OF CORRUPT DA’S WITH CORRUPT HUSBANDS. PIRRO, COULD HAVE BEEN CHARGED FOR TAX EVASION. HER HUSBAND WENT TO JAIL. DIFIORE’S HUSBAND HAS DONE MANY BORDERLINE THINGS TO FURTHER HER CAREER. SHE IS CORRUPT AND HER CONSULTANT IS A COMPLETE FRONTRUNNER, WHO WILL DEFEND ANYONE WHO MIGHT BE OF USE TO HIM LATER ON.
I happen to agree with the above poster. Janet Difiore and Jenine Pirro are both bad news. The interesting thing with Janet is that the entire office, other than a hand picked few, are fed up with and dis like this woman. The morral has never been worse in the DA’s office. She is not a leader, she lies alot and also takes advise from idiots such as Sir George and Pat Murphy. We as a people must be the dumbest of all to elect such a failure and untrustworthy woman into the most important office in the county. As far as the poster who mentioned her being a cheat, that has been the rumor in political cirlces for years. How do you explain her staying at Peter Viviano’s house in white plains. Dennis Glazer is either too dumb or Janet Difiore is just that good of a liar and manipulator, either way she must go!

One thing most people have to remember, maybe there isn’t any Republican or Democratic way to fight crime, but a person that flip flops and uses the parties to her or his advantage should be suspect!!!! I am also surprised at Tim Hayes, Mister bleed Republican, defending Janet. Did he defend Mike Spano. My eight ball says doubtful!!!!

Maybe the consultant is right, but that would mean a primary for DA DiFiore. I think she could win over tony castro. I think people are upset by the fact she changed parties and not just seeked the Democratic line in 2009. It seems She already has Independence line.
Your grandmother could win over Tony Castro. He is so tied in with Zherka and Blassberg that he would be wiped out. Castro is over and done. Maybe they could try to run Fidel Castro. He wouldn’t do much worse than Tony Castro.
I think my grandmother would have absolutely no problem capturing this office, were she an American citizen.

DA…you watch..after the zherka lawsuit is litigated
castro will be farther and farther away from his goal

that will be a central issue from which he will not
escape….just like he couldn’t escape from his
role in the Bronx DA’s office…
Mike Edelman is already speaking as if he has won the law suit lodged against him by the Westchester Guardian. Mike think twice. Be prepared to pay the price when you lose.

I want those who think the zherka lawsuit has any validity
to document the issues
1. what is the connection between the bloggers and th
new york da..he has said in an affidavit that there
is no prior relationship of any kind ie there can
be no conspiracy
2. the zherka lawsuit says that he is under grand jury
investigation..why and what for..the new york county
da can only investigate crimes in new york not in
westchester..what is it that zherka may have done
to ignite a grand jury inquiry?
3. the zherka lawsuit states the consultant referred
to him as an albanian mobster..but every single
blog entry from the dates he referenced have absolutely
no entry of that kind ….who made it up…why
did they make it up…and isn’t it libel per se for
them to give out to the press prior to filing the
lawsuit …their allegation that the consultant called
him “an albanian mobster” when in fact no such
statement was ever made
how much should zherka pay for that insult and for
that slander of an attorney who has many clients
from the muslim community
we are a people of principle in Westhchester. Some of the finest in the world. How is it that we can be controlled unwittingly by the current district attorney without pause ??

had four thousand dollars in his campaign and then
turn around and buy 20,000 worth of tv spots, and do
two county mailings in the next few days..did he
withold the checks so the public couldn’t see who
his contributors were? or did he get a large infusion
from a single donor immediately after the filing.
and if he did what was the name of that donor..

Andy Spano is the problem, (along with Ryan and most of his board) , not DiFiore. I don’t like her Party flip-flop, but the DA prosecutes felons and knows well all the players on both sides of the aisle, probably a net advantage to all at the end of the day. The County Exec and the Board Chairman negatively affect everyone trying to make an honest living and stay up with their mortgage payments and outrageous tax bills.
