Zogby: McCain Loses To Obama, Beats Clinton
-
- February
- 20
The latest Zogby International/Reuters poll today shows that Barack Obama has a sizable national lead over Hillary Clinton in the Democratic race for president and would also beat Republican candidate John McCain in the general election.
And to help Obama’s argument to be the party’s candidate, Clinton would lose to McCain 50 percent to 38 percent. Obama would beat McCain 47 percent to 40 percent, the poll found.
In the Democratic matchup, Obama leads Clinton 52 percent to 38 percent, and Obama leads Clinton among likely voters ages 50 to 64 by a whopping 57 percent to 29 percent margin.
Obama also erased Clinton’s edge among female voters; the two are tied at 44 percent, the poll found. Among men, Obama leads 61 percent to 32 percent.
“There are lots of significant numbers here, but what really caught my eye was Obama’s gains among those age 50 to 64, a group which captures most of the Baby Boomers,” Zogby said.
“Did Caroline Kennedy’s endorsement and campaigning for Obama effectively remind Democratic Boomers of her father?”
“Also, the differential among African Americans is striking,” Zogby continued. “By an 80 percent to 3 percent margin, they support Obama over McCain. But, in a Clinton-McCain contest, just 58 percent of African Americans say they will support Clinton, compared to 18% who support McCain, which makes me wonder: could there be disaffected African Americans who support Obama but who will be reluctant to support Clinton in a general election?”
The Reuters/Zogby telephone survey was conducted Feb. 13-16 and included 1,105 likely voters nationwide, and carries a margin of error of 3.0 percentage points.

It’s only February, so the most meaningful
number here is Obama’s lead over Hillary.
Obama has not really been challenged on
the Republican side, by McCain.
But of interest is that poll which shows
McCain just 7 points behind Hillary in NY,
her own…errr…her carpetbagged blue state.
McCain can win it all by 4 points by the
time November rolls around.
following up on ethan’s remarks..Mr. Zogby is in my
judgment not the most reliable pollster out there
But that aside, the Obama Phenomenon is transient in
my opinion..it is excitement generated by his ability
to orate…he has been rated the most liberal us senator
in the senate…we have never elected someone that far
to the left …ever…JFK wasn’t neither was carter or clinton…the polls which show Obama beating McCain are
a reflection of the moment…they have nothing to do
with the mood of the electorate in the fall…the democrats
believe that Obama is a better candidate than clinton
they are wrong..but that is good for republicans because
democrats are stuck between a rock and a hard place.
deny the first african amercian the nomination by
resorting to the power of the super delegates and the
democrats risk losing half their voters….so they
are stuck..Mc Cain wins this election..its predictable
and you can take it to the bank..and without pating
myself on the back since the election of JFK..I have
never been wrong on a presidential ….
Consultant—- you are 1000% correct.
By worrying more about “making history” – the first black or the first woman, the Democrats paid NO attention to anyone else. The white guys never got up to the plate. So we never learned whether any of them had the right stuff to take on the Republicans.
So, here’s a little history Democrats’ll make: how ‘bout 3 Republican terms in a row; 6 of the last 8; 8 of the last 11 terms. With the inside track to win in 2012.
All those starry-eyed Democrats who wanted Hillary, and now are in love with Obama, will get to think about things over 4 – maybe 8 – more years of Iraq, a conservative Supreme Court, etc.
Good job. You made “making history” more important than shaping history.
nick spano needs to run! people say it’s crazy – i say all the stars are lining up. come back senator!
It seems as if ‘Mack Daddy’ McCain is developing some ‘Rudy’ issues. Reports alleging that he cheated on his wife with a lobbyist. The same wife who he was dating while he was still married to his previous wife. Yeah, I’d say that John McKeating is a lock to win the general lol. Does McKeating have the temperment to be President? Republican senators Cochran and Corker apparently don’t think so and there have been other Repub Senate colleagues of his who are on record as expressing those same concerns. Bomb bomb bomb, bomb bomb Iran.
READ THE TIMES ARTICLE AND YOU WILL REALIZE THAT
IT IS
1. BASED ON 8 YEAR OLD ALLEGATIONS
2. THAT ANONYMOUS SOURCES WERE RELIED ON
3. THAT THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO EVIDENCE MCCAIN HAD
ANY KIND OF ROMANTIC INVOLVMENT
4. THAT THE FEMALE LOBBYIST WAS SHOOTING HER MOUTH
OFF ABOUT HOW :INFLUENTIAL SHE WAS
5. THAT THE SO CALLED FORMER STAFFERS WERE DISGRUNTLED
6. THAT ALL OF THIS HAS BEEN AIRED BEFORE
7. THAT THE NEW YORK TIMES HAD THE STORY IN DECEMBER
AND WAITED UNTIL AFTER THE NOMINATION WAS LOCKED UP
8 THAT NOTWITHSTANDING THEY HAD THE “STORY” THEY
STILL ENDORSED MC CAIN IN THE PRIMARY
EFFECTS
1. THE CONSERVATIVES HATE THE TIMES MORE THAN THEY HATE
MC CAIN SO THEY WILL COME TO HIS DEFENSE
2. ANONYMOUS ANYTHING IS VERY SUSPECT AND THE TIMES
WILL BE CALLED OUT ON THE CARPET BY ALL THE TALKING
HEADSS
3. THIS OPENS THE DOOR OF ANONYMOUS STORIES
ABOUT OBAMA’S RELATIONSHIP WITH LOUIS FARAKIND
I CAN’T WAIT
For once the consultant makes sense (even a broken clock is right twice a day). Once the Dems trash Hillary for pretty-boy Barry, McCain will waltz into the White House. McCain should pick Condi Rice as his running mate and give two groups of single issue voters someone they can vote for.
Based on what’s out there so far, the Times’ story
is a disgrace. The “paper of record” has slipped
badly in recent years. Jayson Blair, anyone?
The Times has had a clear and biased agenda, and this
time they may have gone way over the line with a bunch
of garbage. If this story falls apart, and it looks
like it will, then heads will roll at the Times.
Front page, above the fold, and a very long story
that is convoluted and not sourced with anyone on
the record. Sounds like the National Enquirer.
Condi Rice is a very talented woman but brings nada to
the ticket..African Americans traditionally do not vote
for Republicans…too bad we could use a little help
what;s more she is too closely connected to the
Bush era and MCCain needs to keep his distance to attract
Independents in swing states…Finally she cannot delvier
any particular state not having ever run for office. SO
McCain needs a person from a purple state or who can deliver
a purple state like Ohio, Pa, Michigan etc…that is why
Romeny makes such good sense.
Farrakhan is a dangerous guy. He’s also
unstable, clearly. He’s also a hate-monger
of the first degree.
Obama’s tie to him seems to be one step removed.
But that is still way too close. It’s fair game.
the consultant – This opens up nothing as that door is always open. You should know that. An adulterer with a bad temper who takes bombing other countries lightly. Yup, presidential material, lol.
blah blah..the adulterer with the bad temper who failed
to take out osama when he had the chance already
occupied the white house from 1992 to 2000….and his
bad tempered wife who authorized the invasion of
Iraq and Iran essentially wants to occupy it
in 2009…yup ..yup yup!
You are right, Bubba is not such a good person. The good thing is that Billary won’t get the nomination and Bill won’t get a chance to occupy the White House again. We’ll see if these anonymous sources pan out. I do suppose that to the GOP, cheating on your wife who stood by and waited for you while you were a POW with a hot young blonde heiress to millions is a positive.
That maverick campaign finance reporter sure seems to have a history of being cozy with lobbyists and corporate types. It is nice to see that the media love affair with Mack Daddy McCain may be coming to an end.
Washington Post and AP are also running with the McCain story, which seems to have gotten its start from a Matt Drudge item. Here’s a quote from the AP…
“In late 1999, McCain twice wrote letters to the Federal Communications Commission on behalf of Florida-based Paxson Communications  which had paid Iseman as its lobbyist  urging quick consideration of a proposal to buy a television station license in Pittsburgh. At the time, Paxson’s chief executive, Lowell W. “Bud” Paxson, also was a major contributor to McCain’s 2000 presidential campaign. McCain did not urge the FCC commissioners to approve the proposal, but he asked for speedy consideration of the deal, which was pending from two years earlier. In an unusual response, then-FCC Chairman William Kennard complained that McCain’s request “comes at a sensitive time in the deliberative process” and “could have procedural and substantive impacts on the commission’s deliberations and, thus, on the due process rights of the parties.”
McCain wrote the letters after he received more than $20,000 in contributions from Paxson executives and lobbyists. Paxson also lent McCain his company’s jet at least four times during 1999 for campaign travel.”
Mr. Straight Talk Express/Campaign Finance Reform, your slip is showing.
Not so, Walt. Writing a letter urging the
FCC to move one way or another after doing nothing
for about two years is not a “baddie.”
He didn’t encourage them to rule one way or
another, just to make a decision, period.
Also, if the NY Slimes had any evidence of an affair
it would have been published today. They wrote
a long story as it is. Full of nothing substantial.
just for the record the average time for the FCC to make
a decision is 400 days….the time that past in the
situation involving Paxson and McCain was 800 days
I doubt that urging an agency of the government
to make a decision without urging a particular
outcome is a violation of anything..so those of
you who see an ethics violation behind every
letter a senator writes ought to look at Hillary’s
letters first..
ALL GREAT POINTS MR. CONSULTANT. THIS STORY IS BULL. JUST A WAY FOR A LIBERAL RAG PAPER TO THROW MUD AT A GOOD MAN. WE SHOULD BE TALKING ABOUT OBAMA’S WIFE WHO SAID “IN HER ADULT LIFE SHE WAS NEVER PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN” TO ME THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN ON THE FRONT PAGE NOT THIS. I GUESS THE TIMES WANTED TO TAKE AWAY FROM THAT STORY SO THEY CAME OUT WITH THIS . WHAT A JOKE!
“IN HER ADULT LIFE SHE WAS NEVER PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN
I’m sure that you could find the correct quote rather than make one up. There are actually two quotes going around. One is very close to – for the first time in my adult life I’m really proud of my country. The second is omits the word ‘really’. You should examine your use of quotation marks, maybe you’ll learn about them in the 7th grade.
My question is this: would the Stepford Wife of the presumptive repub nominee be comfortable with a careful examination of her actions?
that;s exactly what we need, a first lady who is
“finally” proud to be an american…
really proud..as opposed to what..not really proud
proud but not as much as I could be
proud but I could be prouder
or the real opposite of the word really
which is ..I am not so proud!!!
HEY BLAH I DON’T CARE HOW SHE SAID BUT SHE SAID IT. THAT’S A DISGRACE.
The far left will sink itself. It always does.
This is not your daddy or grandpa’s Democratic
Party anymore. The inmates are running the
asylum now. And they will do themselves in.
exactly correct..the obama cult will carry the day
just as the mcgovern cult did..the democrats can’t
help themselves..they need to fall in love
RE: Above comment of Condi Rice for VP…...
I have explained to all you former (But have disappeared) “Rudy Supporters” since summer.
Liberal Republicans are not even on the radar in National Politics…Liberal Republicans have no ground in the GOP , zip, nada, zero
National Republicans are NOT Westchester Republicans.
That said….Condi Rice will NOT be VP, she is Pro-choice.
End of conversation.
On another matter…Remember,
Republicans will vote for blacks, BUT…
Blacks will not vote for Republicans.
