Schumer, Hall ask Watson to stay

Posted by: Susan Elan - Posted in Chuck Schumer, John Hall on Feb 21, 2008

U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer and U.S. Rep. John Hall are urging Watson Pharmaceuticals to keep its facilities in Putnam County open.

Watson announced this week it would move its manufacturing plant in Carmel to India, Florida and California by 2010.

The second-largest private employer in Putnam, Watson employs about 570.

Today, in a personal letter to Watson CEO Paul Bisaro, Schumer and Hall urged the company to reconsider and committed themselves, as well as agencies throughout the state, to making New York as attractive a place to do business as anywhere in the world.

“With an increasingly dicey global market, we understand that Watson Pharmaceuticals needs to remain competitive, Schumer said. “But the point is that New York State has all of the resources needed to do first-rate, global business—from our top-notch workforce to our position on the forefront of technological innovation. We are 100 percent committed to assisting Watson with anything they may need to allow their company to flourish and ensure that our workers and local economy are not abandoned.

“Watson’s Carmel and Brewster operations are vital to the area,â€? Hall said. “In this uncertain economy, Watson’s departure would deal a considerable blow to the lower Hudson Valley.”

“Whether the issue is workforce development and retention, the high cost of energy, or business taxes and incentives, we stand ready to be of assistance and to encourage the support of other government entities, they wrote.

    Oh, wow, Schumer and Hall. Like any business manager could possibly care about advice from two anti-corporate socialists.

    First they drive-out business from the state, then, when the trucks back up to move, they prostrate themselves before the same businesses that they taxed and regulated to death. These guys are full of a thing the old-timers used to call ‘hot air’.

    So, where’s Greg Ball?

    Those two goofballs, Schumer and Hall, can ask
    all they want. But until and unless NY gets
    real about the highest taxes in the USA, and
    stops letting fraud and illegal immigrants
    drain so much of the social services money, companies
    are going to leave, and the middle and upper-middle
    class are right behind them.

    But that’s beyond the likes of Schumer and Hall.
