Comments on: Spitzer Pushes “One New York”

God help us. “One New York” is akin to the “one world” phrase used by socialists and communists in the 1960s.

When Mr. Spitzer says “One New York,” I believe he really means to continue, “under Elliot Spitzer.”

Nelson Rockefeller, a man to whom our present governor may be compared, was never half as arrogant as the man in Albany today.

Spitzer’s single goal is to destroy the Republican Party, his only formidable political opponent, taking out its leadership and providing him with a comfortable, single party government.

Voters lose when there is one party in charge of government(s) in any particular environment. In this case, it will be New Yorkers—those same taxpayers for whom Mr. Spitzer claims to have found the solution with his “One New York” phrase—who will suffer when checks and balances are overidden once his scheme is approved.

Spitzer is actually gloating. Maybe prematurely.

It’s easy to say “let’s be one” when it is
your party that may soon be in contol and would
like all to be quiet on the reservation, so to speak.

This is exactly the type of vitriol that hurts the state and stifles meaningful deabte. And you have to admit, it’s a bit ironic for you to throw “rabidly partisan” in there. Are you sure it’s the governor who’s foaming at the mouth?

“Creating jobs, lowering taxes?” Creating state jobs, perhaps, costing the taxpayers even more. It’s mind-blowing how totally blind or mendacious some people are. And, blind is the kindest word.

Inane? Spitzer is a power-mad, overly ambitious, rabidly partisan, would-be dictator. No, he’s not genocidal, but the political comparison is valid.

Sara – Laying aside the unbelivable offensiveness of comparing a Jewish person to Hitler, this is a pretty inane comment. Unifying a state around common goals – creating jobs, lowering taxes, etc. – is not a bad thing. Divisiveness for divisisness’ sake (which is what Bruno is now pushing) is exactly what’s wrong with Albany.

And really, let’s tone things down to a reasonable level of commentary.

Spitzer’s “One New York”-one party control under his leadership-is a little too close to “Ein Volk, Ein Reich, Ein FÃ¼hrer” for comfort.
