Andy Spano takes aim at Spitzer’s budget

March
3

Westchester County Executive Andrew Spano and Gov. Eliot Spitzer have often described themselves as friends and  expressed admiration for each other’s accomplishments. Could that be changing?

Spano tomorrow will host an 11:30 a.m. press conference with several other county executives from the region to criticize Spitzer’s budget proposal for passing along too many state mandated costs to local governments. Rockland County Executive C. Scott Vanderhoef, a Republican, and Putnam County Deputy Executive John Tully are also expected to be on hand.

Then, a day later, Spano will testify before the New York Commission on Property Tax Relief, which was created by Spitzer and chaired by Nassau County Executive Tom Suozzi. The commission is holding a hearing in Tarrytown on Wednesday.

Spano, according to a media advisory sent out by his office, will call for action to prevent the state from passing on further financial burdens to county governments, local governments and school districts.
