Big Win, New Firm

The political architects behind Democrat Darrel Aubertine’s big Senate win last week have started their own consulting firm, called Red Horse Strategies, LLC.
The firm will be led by Democratic Senate Campaign Committee veterans Doug Forand, Marc Lapidus and Nathan Smith.
At the campaign committee, they also led Andrea Stewart Cousins’ Senate win in 2006 in Westchester County and the re-election of Sen. Dave Valesky in Syracuse. They also led Craig Johnson’s special election Senate victory in February 2007 on Long Island.
Lapidus served as Bill Mulrow’s campaign manager for state comptroller in 2002, Hillary Clinton’s deputy campaign manager in 2000 and Peter Vallone’s deputy campaign manager in 1998.
Forand has served as deputy chief of staff and director of the DSCC under Senate Minority Leaders David Paterson and Malcolm Smith. In 2002, he was the campaign manager for Alan Hevesi’s 2002 comptroller campaign.
Smith recently was acting as director of minority information services for Sen. Malcolm Smith and field director for the DSCC.

An interesting phenomenon happening with increasing frequency in New York: Democrats winning in GOP-dominated districts.
Last week’s 48th SD win by Democratic Sen. Darrel Aubertine, a pro-life, anti-gay marriage moderate, is the most recent example.
Republicans are now losing to Democratics in upstate New York by running as Social Conservatives. NY GOP deserves to lose its Senate.
