Mansion Meeting Between Spitzer and Bruno

Posted by: Joseph Spector - Posted in Uncategorized on Mar 05, 2008

Gov. Eliot Spitzer and Republican foe Senate Majority Leader Joseph Bruno had their first face-to-face meeting in quite some time Monday morning at the governor’s mansion in Albany, according to aides.

The sides said the meeting was “cordial” and they discussed upcoming budget negotiations and talked socially. It doesn’t sound like they got into the Troopergate scandal, though.

Bruno and Spitzer, who invited Bruno to the mansion, have been at odds since last summer when a report by Attorney General Andrew Cuomo found that Spitzer’s aides were compiling travel documents on whether Bruno was using state aircraft for political purposes.

The two of them didn’t speak for months after that, leaving the end of last year’s legislative session at a standstill.

But Bruno suggested this week he hopes for a better relationship with the governor as the sides seek to get a budget deal by the April 1 deadline. After that, though, they’ll be fighting over control of the Senate, which the GOP controls by just one seat.

“All we want to do is govern and get results,” Bruno said.

Two pickpockets planing their next heist. Where was Shelley, otherwise detained on another, personal heist?

    planning, thank you.

Come to think of it, maybe ‘planing’ was right after all. They could just as easily have met and conspired on a taxpayer funded aircraft.
