Colety slams Board of Elections move

March
6

Westchester GOP Chairman Doug Colety issued a statement today criticizing County Executive Andrew Spano’s plan to move the Board of Elections to a building on Saw Mill River Road in Greenburgh, calling it an “outrageous abuse of power.”

Colety complained that the new location is relatively remote and difficult to reach by public transportation. He also noted that building’s owner,  Jon Halpern, has been a major donor to Spano’s election campaigns.

“The Republicans on the Board of Legislators, along with some thoughtful members of the media, have already exposed how Andy Spano’s political contributors stand to benefit from this deal,” Colety said.

Colety’s argument, however, might have been bolstered by the attendance of Republican legislators at today’s meeting of the Budget and Appropriations Committee, which reviewed the proposed move. While 11 Democratic  legislators were on hand for the session and questioned Spano administration officials about the move, no member of the GOP caucus took the time to show up.

As it was, the committee gave its approval, sending the matter to the full Board of Legislators for a vote Tuesday. Democratic lawmakers insisted, though, that the proposal’s fate is still uncertain.

Too bad for Colety that the Republican Commissioner stated that most people that visit the Board of Elections today drive to the building.

Colety also forgets to mention that the owners at 10 County Center Road are also contributors to Spano (who isn’t) ... and the County already rents space for DSS at 10 County Center Road.

Yeah right Colety…You never made a deal huh?
