Former state Sen. Richard Dollinger plans to announce his intentions to run for his former seat on Saturday and challenge incumbent Sen. Joseph Robach, R-Greece, Monroe County.
Dollinger resigned his post as a Brighton town judge to prepare for his Senate run in the 56th Senate District, which cover Rochester and its suburbs.
Dollinger, who served in the state Senate from 1993 to 2002, retired from the Senate after Robach, then a Democratic state assemblyman, switched parties and ran for Dollinger’s seat.
But with Democrats feeling a renewed sense of optimism after Democrat Darrel Aubertine’s Senate win last month in the North Country, Dollinger is expected to one of many formidable Democrats to seek to oust incumbent Republican senators as the GOP holds a one-seat majority in the chamber.
Robach’s seat is expected to be one of the most heavily contested in the state.
But before Dollinger would face Robach, he’ll likely face a Democratic primary. Rochester school board member Willa Powell and Brighton Supervisor Sandy Frankel have already announced plans to run for the seat.

Must be a lot of money in this politics game.
