Day: one. Bills: five

Day one, and new Gov. David Paterson has already signed his first five bills.
According to his office, they will:

• Add the Department of Labor, which has oversight of employee safety issues, to the New York City Transit Track Safety Task Force
• Eliminate a statutory provision that could create a disincentive for employers to hold blood drives for their employees
• Change the composition of the Health Research Science Board and clarify the manner in which members are appointed to the board
• Restore income eligibility caps for persons who seek to become employed through the Green Thumb Environmental Beautification program, thereby ensuring that only truly needy seniors are eligible for employment
• Ensure that the tax exemptions granted to the local development corporation responsible for overseeing the construction of a new court facility in Niagara Falls are similar to the tax exemptions granted to other similar entities.
