One of the jokes that Gov. Paterson told during his inaugural speech was about how as lieutenant governor, the legally blind leader presides over the Senate sessions. In one of his first attempts at using the gavel during Gov. Spitzer’s State of the State address, he almost smashed a glass of water next to him.Moving the glass before Paterson could hit it, Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, an Orthodox Jew, interjected, “I would not allow you turn the state of the state into a Jewish wedding.”
