Presidential Politics In Albany

March
17

It was inevitable that this would have happened. As Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton was introduced, some in the crowd started to quietly chant “Hillary, Hillary.” Then one supporter yelled, “Go Hillary.” Then another person in the audience fired back, “Go Obama.”

Some jeers followed, then Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver defused the situation by hitting the gavel and saying “Let’s get to the order of the day.”

Still, Clinton received two standing ovations when she was first announced by Silver and then again by Paterson. She later called Paterson a “good friend.” He campaigned for her in the early primary states, including in Iowa.

“I thought it was brilliant,” Clinton said of the speech. “The way he personalized it and connected it to the challenges facing New York is exactly the right message. … I feel strongly that we all need to support Gov. Paterson and our state. We are going through some challenging times and I wanted to be here to demonstrate that.”
