Legislative Leaders: Paterson Infidelity A Private Matter (Fixed)
Unlike Gov. Eliot Spitzer, new Gov. David Paterson is maintaining support among the state’s top legislative leaders.
Fixed: Senate Majority Leader Joseph Bruno, R-Brunswick, Rensselaer County, said it’s a personal matter that should not affect governing.
“I frankly think their personal life in is their own business and as long as it doesn’t interfere with governing, then they have to deal with it in their own way,” said Bruno, Spitzer’s political nemesis.
Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, D-Manhattan, offered similar reaction.
“There are people around this state who understand circumstances,” he said. “Obviously, a big difference between that and the prior one (involving Spitzer).”
“It is a story that the governor showed a need to put out to let everyone know that this is it. If anything, it’s a testament to him saying, ‘Stop your searches, people.’â€

The old Silver fox would love it if he could enforce “stop your searches, people.” The first amendment and the due process clause of the fourteenth amendment are, thankfully, pesky little impediments in his path.
It is hardly a suprise that the Albany slimesters would say it’s Paterson’s personal business. You can bet some of them have the same issues on the side.
The problem is that it stops being a “private matter” when there are concerns over whether state funds or campaign funds were used as part of the “private matter”.
