Making the case for a pay raise in Westchester

March
18

Bill Ryan, the chairman of the Westchester Board of Legislators, and Majority Leader Martin Rogowsky both appeared before the legislature’s Compensation Advisory Board this morning to make their arguments for a pay increase.

According to William Mooney, chairman of the advisory panel, neither Ryan nor Rogowsky asked for a specific dollar amount in their testimony. Instead, they simply argued that current pay and stipends – especially for the chairman’s position – were undervalued.

“They talked about what they do,” Mooney said. “They talked about the long hours and that the chairman’s job is really a full time job these days.”

In December, Ryan told The Journal News that he believed the chairman’s position should receive the same pay as county commissioners, about $150,000 a year. Today, however, he said it was up to the advisory panel to determine a proper amount, Mooney said.

Mooney said the panel is still in the “informative stages” of its work but should be able to meet the April 30th deadline for making a recommendation to lawmakers on pay raises.

“I think in three or four meetings we should have this pretty reasonably wrapped up,” Mooney said. The panel’s next meeting is Tuesday at 5 p.m. at the offices of the Westchester County Association.

So let me understand this….the state budget is in
deficit requiring a tax increase, westchester property
taxes are the highest in the nation..most people have
not had a pay increase in years, inflation and tight
credit are forcing people from their homes, the price
of food is going up, seniors on fixed incomes are getting
less interest at the bank..and THESE PART TIME ELECTED
    OFFICALS WANT A PAY INCREASE..!!!!

I am a very well Known Republican Consultant in Westchester County. I have given up on both the Repblican and the Democratic Party. People Like Al Pirro, Amicone, Nick Spano, Jeanine Pirro, Andy Spano and Ryan, most of whom I have considered freinds, and others have poisoned and corrupted our county to a point of no return. I dont know if I can continue consulting in the Political arena

THESE TRYING ECONOMIC CIRCUMSTANCES…MAYBE A PAYCUT
WOULD BE IN ORDER..TELL YOU WHAT ELECT ME COUNTY

AND CLEAN THIS MESS UP..ONE TERM AND OUT

    Agreed.

Tell Mooney to bring in Steve Tenore, George Oros, George Latimer and let them tell how they were Chairmen. Do we believc Ryan is doing a better job than they did? HAH!! Do we believe the job is harder NOW then when Tenore fought against the Pepe-Fareri Bldg, or when Oros fought privatization, or when Latimer changed the partisan climate 10 years ago? HAH !!

Ryan wants more $$$ just in case he doesn’t get to be County Exec.

Now that I read your equivocative, unstudied support for our very left-of-center, intellectually and morally challenged governor and his Apollo Theater crowd, I rescind my nomination. Paterson needs to offer a little more than a couple few lame jokes to make me a parishoner.

Ignatz – You bring up days when we could be proud of the integrity of most of our elected officials.

Maybe they need the $$$ for better hookers?

Put ‘em on commission! How is it that we have a bad year, they have a good year?
