Acting State Police Superintendent Preston L. Felton, who was caught up in the Troopergate scandal involving Gov. Eliot Spitzer and was never given the job permanently, just announced his is retiring as of April 4.There have long been rumors about Felton’s departure, and that speculation grew after Felton, unlike some top Spitzer aides who attended Gov. David Paterson’s inaugural Monday, was nowhere to be found.*Today I advised the Governor’s Office that I will be retiring from State Police service,” Felton said in a statement. ” My last day is expected to be April 4th. I want to thank the Governor’s Office for allowing me the great opportunity to serve the people of the state of New York in this capacity.”
