Remember when the news in Albany was focused on state Senate races? The GOP chairwoman in Jefferson County is calling on new Gov. David Paterson to call a special election in the North Country Assembly seat vacated by Democrat Darrel Aubertine, who won a special election for a Senate seat last month.”I think it would send a very positive, b-partisan message to our entire North Country if Gov. Paterson were to place calling a special election for the 118th Assembly District at the forefront of what I’m certain is a crowded t0-do list,” said GOP chairwoman Sandra Corey.Paterson has not indicated when a special election would be called to fill the vacant seat.

Uhm. Ms. Corey needs to get her story straight. Just 3 weeks ago she and her St. Lawrence County GOP counterpart said that a special election should NOT be called before the general. Which is it?
why doesn’t albany just pass a law regarding special elections? make it mandatory, like upon the vacancy an election should be held a month and a half from the effective date unless the vacancy is six months or less from the date of a general election, then it should just go to the special… it’s an idea, but it needs to be worked on and the system changed.
you’d think with someone like greg ball on the election law committee in albany, he would propose such legislation, but he doesn’t care about or know how to do his job.
