These laws are a blessing to society. Give me a break on that "first time, small amount, no violence" nonsense. Drug crimes are the most violent crimes in existence, and countless have died in New York in connection with drugs. To say that drugs is a non-violent crime is laughable at best. As far as that "first time" nonsense, there is no such thing as someone transporting 4 ounces of cocaine "for the first time". If they had that much cocaine, then they definitely did these crimes dozens of times; this is just the first time they got caught. That's the only part of "first time" that's true.
