Federal indictments in Mount Vernon investigations

Posted by: Liz Anderson - Posted in Gerrie Post, Mount Vernon on Mar 20, 2008

Here’s what they’re talking about in Mount Vernon today, from the lead of our story by reporters Jonathan Bandler, Jorge Fitz-gibbon and Tim O’Connor:

“City Hall was left reeling yesterday after two federal indictments charged a former commissioner, a local entrepreneur and two trash haulers with cheating the city out of more than $2.5 million.

“Former Planning Commissioner Constance “Gerrie” Post was indicted on charges that she steered city funds to a friendly developer – including more than $1 million in no-bid contracts.

“Just hours earlier, Albert “Allie Boy” Tranquillo III and an associate, Michael Pizzolongo, were charged with overbilling the city by $1.25 million to remove refuse from a city storage yard.

More here.

You can read the trash-hauling indictment here. I haven’t seen an electronic version of the Gerrie Post charges, but the U.S Attorney’s office press release is here.
