No, it’s no mirage…he’s the boss-man for sure. But on this occasion, it wasn’t him who pushed it. He gave into Spitzer for the special committee to screen Comptroller candidates – all there in the Village Voice and the Daily News stories of that day. So, generally, you’re right – but this specific time, you’re not.

The true buzz is that the long-term Assembly members had it with Spitzer’s high-handedness. They knew DiNap was a good guy and deserved it more than Martha Stark. The Latimers of the world – and the rest – knew DiNap, worked with him, knew he was good even if he wasn’t Harvard or Princeton.

So it wasn’t Sheldon giving orders on this one. Now, the facts don’t fit into the base story: They’re all corrupt. Sheldon does their thinking. They’re all hacks. So, everyone just eblieves the base story.

But on this one, it’s not the case.

You’re surely correct. Silver’s stranglehold on all the perks and committees and lulus up there have no bearing on anyone in the Assembly or any of the votes they deliver. It’s all a mirage. I do remember one occasion, however, not long ago, where there was a rebellion to his leadership and everyone who bucked him lost their additional income and committee positions until they saw the light, the light being Shel’s undisputed dictatorship.

Nice try ed, but all the newspapers reported that the push for DiNapoli was a grassroots revolt among legislators, not a top down dictate from Sheldon or Joseph. They could see the Steamroller was trying to roll them with his own Comptroller. That’s why Client No. 9 wanted to punish the individual legislators personally.

It wouldn’t kill you to ever admit once, you know, that sometimes the cynical response isn’t the true response.

When will we get the final result of what happened to the documents missing from OSC which detailed where the millions of dollars went into Hank Morris’s companies and who the players were who knew about it? These documents disappeared on DiNapoli’s watch. Most of the key Hevesi players are still around. What did they know and when did they know it? 25 million bucks is a lot bigger than chauffergate, callgirlgate or even troopergate.

So I guess when Spitzer came to Westchester lats year to bash George Latimer for voting for DiNapoli, it took a year to find out:

1) DiNapoli is a good, competent Comptroller
2) Spitzer was a snake
3) Latimer did the right thing, and is owed an apology

Is the Edith Macey center in Westchester County? If so, maybe while he’s there, he can look into the bash that hevesi threw there around Thanksgiving 2006. A huge event took place that cost over $30k. Did anyone ever look into it to see if it was bid on? Or, did the folks at the Edith Macey center contribute to hevesi’s campaign? How about someone looking into this?
