Petition Against Spitzer Thruway Nominee (Updated)

March
27

A reader sent over an online petition circulating against former Gov. Eliot Spitzer’s nominee for the state Thruway Authority, White Plains Attorney Brandon Sall.

Sall was considered a strange pick for Spitzer earlier this month because he’s a downstate attorney as the Thruway Authority faces criticism for plans to increase tolls on the Thruway, mainly an upstate issue.

Spitzer, before he resigned, argued he didn’t have any control to stop the toll hikes because the board was made up of former Gov. Pataki appointees.

Yet instead of picking an upstate person to replace Nancy Carey Cassidy, daughter of former Gov. Hugh Carey, he went with Sall, a Democratic campaign contributor.

The petition calls on the state Senate to deny Sall’s appointment. It’s unclear when the Senate will take up the appointment amid all the budget negotiations.

“It is our hope that current Gov Paterson should appoint an individual of esteem, intellect and appropriate experience be appointed to the existing vacancy on the New York State Thruway Authority Board,” the petition reads.

I left a message at Sall’s office for comment, but haven’t heard back yet. He works at DelBello Donnellan Weingarten Wise & Wiederkehr LLP, based in White Plains.

Updated: Sall called back and declined comment, saying he needed to wait until his Senate confirmation before talking about appointment.

Sounds to me like this guy still thinks he is going to get the appointment. I’d better go sign that petition!

  2. Wahoo

I wouldn’t even take Spitzer’s recommendation for a hooker, let alone for a political appointee. There is a difference, isn’t there?

  3. the consultant

new day …new news about elliots relationships with
professional pros….the only issue is socks on or off…
new york must be the laughing stock of the nation
but go back and review newsmakers tapes prior to the
election…I grew up with people like spitzer..I
have been running from them all my life…and I had
him pegged..not to pat myself on the back but
I know a spoiled brat when I see one….which reminds
me of an old rockefeller story when nelson asked
his dad for a new car…the response..who do you
    think we are the vanderbuilts?

  4. Wahoo

Rockefeller? He was that cowboy who died in the saddle back in ‘79. Hush, hush. But do the initials M.M. (female) ring a bell? Not Marilyn Monroe, she was gone long before Rocky was.

  5. ed

AS long as we’re reminiscing about Rocky, when he was trying to build the sticks of Albany into Rome, it was said that he suffered from an edifice complex.

  6. Richard

I think the point is to sign this petition and send a very strong message to Mr. Brandon Sall that he need not wait for his appointment, it isn’t going to come. If you look at the timing of Eliot’s announcement of Sall’s appointment, Eliot already knew his career was over. And then he appoints Sall. So basically, we’re looking at the actions of one disgruntled ex governor. (Whore mongering, calf sock wearing, tossed salad receiving, etc….)

  7. making music

    Wahoo-No, there is no difference.
    Particularly in this case, lol.

  8. D. Paterson

Did Eliot recommend any specific hooker? Does she have a name? What color is her hair? How large is her budget?

  9. Stephen J. Bloom

From what I hear, eliot was an absolute shrew who drove around a minivan because he was too afraid to spend his own money. his father was worth 500 million. one of his whores allegedly went public and said “he was a good tipper and didn’t ask for anything strange”

ask me how I knew she was lying?

Ask me how much the guys in the bronx were paying to poke kristen? Less than $100. So, in the end, it’s kind of funny that the guy who was always looking for a deal ended up overpaying for a piece of used up hooker trash.

and from what i hear, eliot always has the hook up.
    hollah if you hear me.

While I applaud the sentiment behind the petition, the way to make your feelings known on this appointment are to contact members of the senate directly.

Email Senator Tim Libous (Transportation chair) here: Senator@senatorlibous.com
    512 Legislative Office Building
    Albany, NY 12247
    (518) 455-2677

    Email Senate leaders directly here:
    http://www.senate.state.ny.us/Senatorbio.nsf/Public_MemberEmail?openform

Your email should simply request that Mr. Sall’s appointment be denied.

    For example,
    Dear Senator,
On March 7, 2008, Eliot Spitzer appointed one of his campaign donors to the New York State Thruway Board. The donor, Mr. Brandon Sall is an attorney in White Plains who lacks experience in any area applicable to the Thruway. Please deny this appointment and say no to pay to play politics.

Please sign your letters with your full name and address.

    Thank you.

  11. Dirty Mouth? Clean it Up

The conversation certainly went something like this,

“F—- him, he’s a piece of s—-t, shove it up his a*s with a red hot poker”

  12. Ziggie

Oh, yeah , let’s make sure the Democrats don’t appt any Pay for Play buddies…since the Thruway Authority is FILLED with REPUBLICAN buddies of Pataki who Paid and Played.

Happy with them jacking up the Thruway tolls? You can thank the G-O-P for that one.

These blogs are filled with one-sided conservative Republicans. Don’t you see how your guys are no better???

Only The Consultant calls it fairly.

  13. ed

Hey, Ziggie – What about poor ed? He seems to me to be an equal-opportunity critic, if I do say so myself.

  14. Replied

I agree Ziggie. As someone who gave $250 to Spitzer, I wish I could ask for that money back. I’m pretty embarassed to have been such a vocal supporter of Spitzer.

Brandon Sall is out $5,000 dollars and a job.

Pataki’s republicans not withstanding, I can’t see the Senate approving Sall. I know a guy though, he’s perfect, owned his own asphalt paving company in LA for 12 years and he’s a libertarian.

  15. MS

    one thing i don’t understand,
how did 2 downstate lawyers with no experience in transporatation end up on the same upstate board?

2 downstate lawyers from the same law firm in White Plains?

yeh, existing member Kevin J. Plunkett, Esq. is a member of Brandon Sall’s law firm.

things that make you go, huh. indeed.

  16. Paul Revere

    The answer is Al DelBello.

  17. MS

    i missed that entirely.

debello was cuomo’s lt. governor who grew so bored with the job, he quit.

but this also points out that the pay to play poltics go back to cuomo, another dirty democrat. not pataki. who was, one of the greats!

  18. Stoner Dayz

Well there seems to be no shortage of people who recognize the appointment of Brandon Sall is “strange”. And that’s putting it mildly.

  19. Talulah

No one is going to sign the petition because those of us familiar with the Spitzer scandal and the burgeoning scandals of Paterson don’t think Brandon Sall, a Spitzer campaign donor and has a snowballs chance in hell of being seated on the Thruway Authority.

  20. Jason Gibs

    Eliot Spitzer = Limousine Liberal

    NO MORE LIMOUSINE LIBERALS.
Because we all know it just another word for a phony.

  21. Alex

Limousine liberals as applied to Sall?
I think the term is most commonly applied to those who are accustomed to being chaffered around in limousines; not those who merely poach rides off their rich friends.

  22. WPGOP

Unlike John Edwards, Brandon likes to brag about how much his NYC haircuts cost.

braggart: boastful: exhibiting self-importance; “big talk”

  23. #14

    WPGOP,
    And John Edwards is likable.

  24. Me

I think Brandon Sall is hot. He reminds me of a former flame, professional flame, but with a better head of hair, nicer car and superior fashion sense.

  25. Me

    ..flame, professional athlete, but..
