Wanted: Republicans to run for office!

March
27

Is the Westchester GOP having trouble finding candidates to run this year?

A blast e-mail sent out by Republican Chairman Doug Colety seems to suggest that. It begins with the headline, “REMINDER – CANDIDATES NEEDED.”

“I am committed to having an inclusive process for selecting candidates for public office, which is why I am inviting all Republicans who are interested in running to discuss a potential candidacy,” Colety writes in the e-mail. “We have important races for U.S. Congress, State Senate & Assembly, and County Court this year.”

The e-mail goes on to list the offices up for grabs this November, including all three House seats that cover Westchester and the county’s state Senate and Assembly positions. Among those listed was the 40th state Senate District, which is currently held by Republican Vincent Leibell.

“It is not too late to join the process if you are interested in running,” Colety stated.

UPDATE – Colety,  in a telephone call this afternoon, said the party is having success in recruiting candidates. The e-mail, he said, was simply an attempt to get more people involved.

“Many of those seats have candidates already but I don’t want to discourage anyone from coming forward,” Colety said. “Anybody that wants to run for office should have an opportunity  to come here and talk to us.”

  1. Republican

This shows that the Republican Party is alive and well. The leadership is looking for good candidates to compete successfully against the Dem’s this year. THank you LoHub for putting this on your Blog now we all know that the Party is trying to do the right thing.

  2. Wahoo

The Democrats are screwing up so badly they could ressurect
Tom Dewey or Alf Landon and they could win.

doug is doing the right thing…its called transparency…
and the way the democrats are pulling a spitzer on the
taxpayers..I bet candidates line up at headquarters…

  4. NoKoolAidThanks

So let me get this straight- If the GOP reaches out to every possible candidate so that the best possible candidates are put forward, The Journal of Nausea wants to spin this as having no candidates.
But when the Democrats do it it is “inclusion”
When a GOP official trips on his d*ck- the bag men for the left AKA “it’s how you know” folks can’t wait to blow the font size up 20 points on the R next to their name. When it happens to a Donkey, the party affiliation in the news article becomes harder to find than Hillary’s Whitewater billing records. Shame on you!

NICK SPANO WILL BE ANNOUNCING SOOON!

  6. the consultant

the above poster is talking nonsense..the democrats
have been winning everything.thats why your taxes
are so high…thats why spending is out of control
so the leader of the republican party wants to make
sure that everyone interested has a chance..how
can you criticize that..but you love paul feiner
you love andy spano..you love bill ryan…pay for it@

Get the RAID ready! BEWARE Democratic cucarachas, the Republican exterminator is putting on his gear! ARIBA, ARIBA Doug Colety!

  8. Stephen J. Bloom

Ouch, you think tomorrow would be a bad day to be a flaming republican on a Westchester golf course?

  9. Wahoo

    More top Democrats indicted—-

The Feds have indicted a bunch of leading Democrats, including the governor of Puerto Rico (who is also a “super delegate”) on corrupution charges that trace back to powerful Democratic fund-raisers in Pa., who are themselves tied to Gov. Ed Rendell, to the mayor of Philadelphia, and to the disgraced ex-Jersey Dem Governor McGreevey.

  10. 7Curses

well it seems both parties have their crooks and liars but over the last 14 years the bigger crooks and biggest liars have come from the GOP and the cost of their lies and crimes can actually be measured in real life and real death with concrete and overwhelming evidence to the disgrace of all americans who have any scruples

Where was Colety’s Team LAST YEAR when he didn’t challenge a ton of COUNTY Legislators, allowing Dems to get up to 13-4? And he lost two long-time Republican seats in Northern Westchester? THOSE are the races that matter the most locally – control of County government.

He won two Council seats in NR, and flipped the Rye Town Board, and that’s about all. Republicans lost in Mamaroneck Village, lost in Bedford, lost in Lewisboro, got wiped out in Cortlandt, lost the supervisors in Harrison and Yorktown, lost in Somers, lost Peekskill, on and on and made no significant gains anywhere else, i.e. Ossining, Greenburgh, Mt. Vernon, Yonkers, New Castle.

    Oh yes, they held Eastchester.

And Janet DiFiore and Mike Spano became Democrats.

Bloggers on this blog are conservative – but the voting majority is not. It’s a Democratic County, my friends.

  12. the consultant

Yes ziggie it is..but even democrats are now sober
over the spitzer/patterson fiasco…bet the next
governor is a republican if the conservative
party keeps its hands off the nominee

  13. Wahoo

Yes, it is primarly a Democratic County, and the taxpayers are paying dearly for it. Irresponsible spending over and again, constantly raising taxes, and also driving out the middle class, which is the backbone of any county or community. Without a middle class, it’s over.

Yeah, it’s a Democratic County alright.

  14. Pinochio

Dollars for donuts the same old, tired incumbents get the nod…snore.

  15. Ziggie

For the record, Wahoo, Republican leadership raised county taxes pretty good under their leadership. And Republican Gov. Pataki was no tax cutter either, after year one. So this “blame the Dems” stuff is baloney—New York has had plenty of bi-partisan expansion of govt. Notice how the all-Republican Putnam County structure has gone up in taxes? How bout Nassau under the Republicans? A disaster.

And in Washington, DC? Be honest – did the Reps ever live up to The Contract on America? Not under Tom DeLay.
