i’m a guard at ossining, been there for the past 3 1/2 years – making 50 grand for my full time job, not 80 grand for a part timer like the bozos in albany. i don’t know nothing about sandra galef but saying that we should move sing sing upstate is a ridiculous idea that will cost this area hundreds of jobs, not just corrections officers like myself, but everybody from administrative and clerical staff to janitors. maybe ms. galef thinks that in this economy its a good idea to put all those people out of work and move me and my family upstate but i don’t. i think the idea sucks and i hope nyscoba takes a stand against galef whenever she is up again for re-elect.

these blogs are a way for people to express a political
opinion, vent about their own feelings, express themselves
in writing some eloquent and some not, and otherwise participate in the equivalent of the old town hall meetings
You are quite free not to participate if you so choose…On
the otherhand why don’t you watch the HBO miniseries John
Adams..to get an idea of why people have the need to express
themselves..its called democracy..and for stupidity on display to attempt to cut that discussion off conveys a certain elitist mindset reminiscent of what Bill Buckley
wrote about in “God and Man at Yale”....I expect you

You guys are reading too much into it. Ms. Galef was just offering an opinion on Sing Sing. I’m quite sure she knows that it would be next to impossible to close it and set up shop somewhere else. I don’t know if Ossining gets any sort of tax benefit from the state in return for having it there, but I’d bet that Ossining wouldn’t mind having the tax revenue from some sort of development there.

Does anyone know how Assemblywoman Sandra Galef voted on the prisons that the legislature thwarted?

It would be interesting if she voted to not close the ones that the Department of Correctional Services wanted to close. But she wants to close Sing Sing

No, A Stupid Person, I’m not an elitist at all. I’m just a regular guy tired of all of the snide, snotty comments that abide on these blogs. You work hard everyday, and I do too. I reacted to the acid comments that people make about others, and I wanted to know what makes them so great that they can dump on others so casually. The writers act as if everybody else is stupid – I wrote to ask “who are you to sit in judgement?”.

I believe, like you, an elected official should know their community. And I know a few of them – and they’re not all the awful things that are posted about them – stupid, corrupt, venal etc. THAT’S ALL YOU GET ON THESE PAGES!

You say Ms. Galef and the rest don’t get it. I disagree. I think most people don’t even know what these people know, because they read an article in the newspaper, but they don’t meet with the officials themselves. The article – like the blogger – says something nasty, and everybody picks up on it. And repeats it.

I think people love blaming politicians, period. They don’t want to know the specifics of an issue, how hard it may be – it’s just flat-out cooler to trash them. I’m reacting to the one-sidedness of it all.

We are the back bone of our community. We are the people who deliver your mail, we are the plummers that you call when your toilet is stopped up. We may also be the person who baby sits your children when you are out,

We choose substance over symbolism. We believe that a person who represents you should understand the community that they represent.

We want them to take care of the real issues that our state and community is having. She and other legislators just do not understand what is happening around them. They just do not get it.

Well, Stupidity, I’ll give to you a tiny peek. I blog here because I am on this computer at all odd hours because I happen to be a professional writer with a Master’s Degree from a prestigious University which will remain nameless so that you cannot bomb it. At one time, before embarking upon a writing career, I was an Associate Professor at highly-rated college which will remain nameless on this page for the same reason. My father was the president on the local level of a prominent political party, so I pretty much grew up with politics and politicos, both good and bad, both honest and duplicitous. I own my own house on a paltry half-acre, and have no mortgage. I own a ‘57 TBird, a ‘99 Vette and an ‘08 Honda Accord. Nice to meet you.

I’d say the occasionally esteemed people who read this political blog do follow events closely. They also have other lives, but post their observations on breaks, at lunchtime, from their offices or laptops, or in the evenings, etc.

It is evident some are on the political side of the house themselves. Others are professionals of one kind or another. Most seem intelligent.

However, even the world’s biggest morons could and do know what a snakepit Albany is. How corrupt it is. How slimy it is. How useless it is. How unprofessional it is. Even its weather is terrible half the year.

But there is good news. It is reported that even Albany pols have a good side. For instance, many are kind to animals. As proof of that assessment, the cat houses in Albany are said to be in fine condition.

You proclaim all govt stupid and arrogant – do you read the budget? Do you undersatand even one iota beyond what the newspapers tell you?

She has only represented that area since 1993 in the Assembly and in the County legislature before that. Right – we could give the riverfront property away to some developer, along with enormous tax concessions, and then hire more police, fire, and educational personnel at the public’s expense. These legislators couldn’t change a flat tire, even with a manual, never mind be capable of voting knowledgeably and intelligently on billion and multi-billion dollar issues.
