Bloomberg is not a Republican and never really was. He was an opportunist who the Republicans decided to accept as he had an open wallet and the alternative i.e. Mark Green was worse. Bloomberg, has been an okay Mayor but not nearly as good as Giuliani or Koch. He is not a Republican and Republicans should not give him the nod for governor without assurances that he will stick with the party this time and he will focus mainly on fiscal issues.

The Consultant is only partially correct. Republicans cannot nominate a Senator Brownback and expect to win in NY. However, more "moderate" Republicans in New York (including the Consultant's clients and friends) such as Spano and DiFiore have shown little party loyalty and little adherence to any Republican principles.

Governor Pataki was elected on a platform of tough on crime and fiscal responsibility while trying to downplay social issues like guns and abortion. However, no one trusts the Republicans in New York state on fiscal issues after Pataki mismanaged the budget and others such as Bruno demonstrated that they were big spenders.

Right now, the Republican party in New York is skewed towards big spending fat cats who stand for nothing. Yes, the conservative party has been problematic but they are not the problem. Nick Spano, Joe Bruno, and other "moderate" Republicans who have acted like Democrats and went away from pro-business but not pro-croynism policies are.

Wahoo is forgetting a few things...

Rudy started out his political life as a Dem. Bloomberg started as a Dem, went to the GOP, and is now independent.

Dems aren't the only ones with sex scandals, I refer you to Larry "Wide-stance" Craig, and David "Diaperman" Vitter.

Barney- If McCain can hug Bush and be his BFF after what the Bushies did smearing McCain in the NC primary, he shouldn't have any trouble getting over Mondello.

Whatever Ronald Reagan did, other than divorce, long, long before his election, the statute of limitations ran out on his possible, (and unknown) indiscretions. Plus, he was the first candidate since Kennedy to display an intelligent sense of humor, an attribute almost absent before or since, and still held in high regard by the voting poplulace.

a republican and so was rudy....if you are suggesting
that to be a republican you have to have a personal
life that is unblemished...you are forgetting about
ronald reagan...aren;t you

Mondello is amazing.

The State GOP ran a scorched earth campaign to keep McCain off the New York ballot eight years ago, and this past year, they gave the State GOP endorsement to Rudy, going as far to change the party rules to make it virtually impossible for anyone but Rudy to compete here.

Then Rudy self-destructs, and Mondello and friends scurry to gain favor with McCain.

He should tell them where to stick it.

Bloomie a Republican? In name only and not any more. Rudy's personal life seems more like a Democrat's. :)

well ed..republicans have won in new york city
with rudy and bloomberg..and they have won in new
york state with pataki..but you know what the problem
is as well as I do..the conservative party forces
the republicans to adopt a socially hard right
position for federal office..and last time for statewide
office..so the public doesn't really get to concentrate
on real fiscal issues..they just hear a message of
anti abortion, anti gay, and pro gun..just exactly
what 80% of new yorkers of all stripes disagree on

Mondello is a clown and his endorsement has been the kiss of death for many Republicans. If McCain is smart he'll stay as far away as possible from Modello and the senile old farts running the NY GOP.

Maybe if these "Republicans" acted and voted as Republicans, McCain might stand more of a chance. At least there would be some credibility. The Republicans up there in Albany compete with the Democrats in giving everything, including the moral high-ground, away to special interests. I don't know who they think they're kidding, but they're not kidding me.
