Cuomo: School Attorneys Bilking Public

April
10

Attorney General Andrew Cuomo announced this morning that he has issued subpoenas to more than 90 attorneys who represent school districts across the state because he claims many of them are receiving undeserved perks, such as state pensions and health benefits.

Cuomo said the probe includes more than 180 school districts, including 150 upstate, in more than 20 counties. He said the highest number of offenders appear to be in Albany, Broome, Delaware, Erie, Madison and Monroe counties.

“It’s a great scam that has gone on for many, many years,” Cuomo said at a news conference in Albany.

Cuomo alleged that lawyers and school districts have been bilking the state for millions of dollars each year by putting part-time attorneys who advise school districts on the districts’ payrolls, allowing them to receive benefits for which they should not be entitled.

Yet Cuomo would not offer specific school districts where the practices may have occurred or names of attorneys potentially involved. He also did not release all the counties in which he is conducting the investigation.

Andrew Cuomo is making a case for his run for governor. If all this has been going on for years, where were the previous AGs? Where was Spitzer? Where was anybody, including the superintendents in all those districts?

Cashing checks from the school lobbies.

Cuomo’s suddenly got religion. Maybe because he was shunned by the party leaders not too long ago he’s decided to fly solo and appeal directly to the voter. The new baby steamroller. Get a boyfriend. Politically safer than the brothels so long as you don’t appoint him to head NYS Homeland Security.
