Spano not happy with senior forum questions

Posted by: Glenn Blain - Posted in Andrew Spano on Apr 10, 2008

County Executive Andrew Spano is just a few hours away from giving his annual State of the County address, which will be televised live on News 12 in Westchester.

But it seems the usually-affable Spano had something of a tantrum just before the start of another to-be-televised event. This one a senior forum in Yorktown.

According to a post on the blog of The Journal News’ Phil Reisman, Spano stormed off the set of the public access “Senior Forum Show” Wednesday morning because he didn’t like the questions the show’s hosts were going to ask him.

The show is hosted by Catherine McLaughlin and Nick DiTomasso. The pre-taped program airs 5;30 p.m. Fridays on Channel 74.

UPDATE – Susan Tolchin, Spano’s chief advisor, said the county executive was told that he would be asked about county programs for seniors. Instead, he arrived to find that they were intending to question him about the availability of county finds for a proposed senior center in Yorktown.

andy spano ….our county executive…only wanted
one term..thats what he told me on the set of newsmakers
now we are three terms later…and of course any elected
official has to answer hard questions..but andy doesn;t
like hard questions…so he stormed off..leaving those
little old ladies….great representative don;t you
think…its the culmination of one party rule.

Andy Spano is one of the most arrogant elected officials in New York State. I have personally experienced his anger when I asked him a question last summer at the Kensico Dam. (for those curious it was about medicaid fraud/corruption and tax hikes) – He started out but when I asked a follow up to his non-answer it soon became clear that he was not prepared to answer a “tough” question… he stopped mid-sentence and said something to the effect, “Hey, I’m not here to get into a debate with you buddy. So long.” – he shot me a nasty look, turned his back, and walked away – when I went to follow after him to ask a question, a large African-American man stepped in a stopped me from approaching Spano. He identified himself as a Westchester County Cop.

Way to go for open government, open communication… Mr. Spano, I sincerely hope you are not reelected, you do not deserve to be in a position of public trust.

Spano gave an extremely defensive State of the County address. Trying to justify that government’s existence. Residents will be pleased to know that he bragged about 14 Public Works trucks which soon will run on vegetable oil. Seriously. Not a joke.

Did anyone catch former County Legislator Rob Astorino on News 12 tonight?

That guy is sharp as a tack and understands the reality of a bloated County government. I hope he runs again for County Executive, I’d vote for him again and I know many of my neighbors would as well.

At a time when all of the ‘leaders’ have failed us, Rob Astorino represents a new generation of leadership that we should embrace.
